Van Halen at Toei Movie Studio with Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara, Tokyo - I've posted several pictures in Twitter. Shinko Music just released a lot of photos of VH in Japan.

When Van Halen Went to Japan in 1978 they took photos on a large truck used in the the 1978 Film series - TRUCK YAROU.

It is possible that Van Halen had to go to the movie studio to record their TV appearance. The band is wearing similar clothes. Mikey is in the same shirt. Dave is wearing that red silky shirt that looks similar to the one worn in the performance. Dave obviously changed clothes. He's wearing Red pants in some of the photos, black leather pants in others. He wore black leather during the performance. It's possible the ban id the TV appearance, and changed clothes somewhat, came back outside and took a few more photos. Who knows?

Torakku Yarō (トラック野郎?) is a series of ten Japanese comedy-action films produced by Toei and released from 1975 to 1979. All ten films in the series were directed by Noribumi Suzuki and starred Bunta Sugawara as Momojiro Hoshi ("Ichibanboshi" or "first star") and Kinya Aikawa as Kinzo Matsushita, also known as "Jonathon". The title Torakku Yaro means "truck guys", and the films involve two truckers and their various escapades as they travel around Japan in highly decorated trucks.

The plot formula is similar to the Otoko wa Tsurai yo films. Each time Momojiro falls in love with a woman (the "Madonna") and then ends up having to help her romance with another man. The stories end with Momojiro having to race his truck to meet a deadline to rejoin the couple.

The Film released in 1978 was called, "Totsugeki Ichibanboshi" 1978 Mieko Harada - Female lead (Madonna)
