He was no angel.... but if he's lucky, maybe he just moved into their neighborhood.

No longer tied to the whipping post.... rest in peace Gregg :(

This just keeps on getting better and better.

Fuck him, Gregg Allman voted Trump and was a known wife-beater. Proof-positive the south shall never rise again. What pisses me off about this is that this grandfather of southern rock bought a farm and Jimmy Page is still walking around?

Do celebrities die in threes, or nines? They're dropping like flies, watch your ass Keith Richards!

I pretty much hate Southern Rock (unless Tom Petty is considered Southern Rock because I loves Tom Petty). I hate wife beaters and think that voting for Trump was just dumb, but I doubt you really sumed up his legacy there....

Allman told this story in Musician magazine. There isn't an online archive of Musician, this will have to do.

Gregg Allman shot himself in the foot in 1965 to avoid being sent to Vietnam. Duane was exempt from the draft because he was the oldest son and his father was dead

"Back when me and my brother, Duane, were starting to get serious about music," Gregg Allman once recalled, "the government got real serious about Vietnam. We went on the road in 1965. Just before we left, the mail came, and there's this old, brown, government-looking thing. Sure enough, it said, 'Greetings! Uncle Sam wants you to report...' I thought, What the hell am I gonna do? My brother said, 'I'll tell you what we're gonna do. Just shoot a bullet through your foot.' I thought he was joking. He wasn't. We'd had a couple of hits of speed and a couple bottles of whiskey. An hour later he's got a box of sawed-offs set up in the garage, and he's invited a bunch of broads over. This is the first foot-shooting party! I got ready, and the girls are crying, and my brother's having a hell of a time, calling me chicken **** and all that. So I said, 'I need some kind of target.' I had moccasins on, and Duane painted a target on my left foot. I sat down, took real close aim, and bam! The pain, oh, man! I was bleeding quite a bit because the speed and liquor had my blood pressure going. But I was 17, and you know what they say: 'God protects children and drunks.' At the hospital, I said to my brother, 'They're gonna see the target on the moccasin and report us to the damn government.' Somehow Duane got back into the operating room and got that moccasin back. Nobody ever saw it again."

Depends on which wife he beat. If it was Cher, I might be willing to forgive him for it. :gulp:

There's no way he got a draft notice at "17"...

One can enlist at 17 with written permission form their parents, but 18 was the cut off for the draft. Even then, they often took older men in their 20's because they had college or life experience, calling bullshit....

Even so, it wasn't a chickenshit way out like Nugent did with his pants shitting caper.

Reading elsewhere that he died from "complications of liver cancer". Which is ironic that he got a transplant to save his life a few years back, and now the spare liver apparently killed him.

I'm sure if he beat a bitch, she deserved it. I mean come on. Can you imagine being married to Kristy and not beating her?

Perspective people, perspective.

Here's a more recent version of "Whipping Post". Completely different arrangement and a bit more funked up from the original...

Do celebrities die in threes, or nines? They're dropping like flies, watch your ass Keith Richards!

This is where we are all heading for... Keith has been under close medical care since the end of the 60s and he seems to be stronger than average.
There are still a big bunch of them more or less rock legends aged 68-72 - which is apparently a perilous range.
