A 47-year-old man suspected of having bomb-making materials in his car during a traffic stop in Brea this week was charged Thursday with four felonies.

Saleh Ali was arrested Tuesday when a Brea police officer pulled him over at about 9 p.m. for having an expired registration on his vehicle, Brea Police Lt. Adam Hawley said.

"During the traffic stop, the officer keyed in on a couple of suspicious items in the car he believed to be an explosive device," Hawley said. "He detained the driver out of an abundance of caution, locked down a little bit of the area and called out sheriff's bomb squad deputies."

The deputies destroyed the suspected explosive devices at the scene, Hawley said.

Man Who Allegedly Had 2 IEDs in His Car in Brea Is Charged With 4 Felony Counts

A Salinas man was charged with four felony counts after being found with two homemade bombs in his vehicle at a traffic stop in Brea on Tuesday night, authorities said.

Saleh Ali, 47, was charged Thursday with intent to unlawfully make a destructive device, two counts of possession of a destructive device, and the sale and transportation of a destructive device, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Brea Police Department officers pulled Ali over for having expired registration at a traffic stop in the area of South Orange Ave and Imperial Highway. Police say they found the two bombs when they checked his black Toyota Corolla.

The DA’s office described the bombs as “improvised explosive devices,” and said they were “containers covered in shrapnel.”

It's amazing how a story like this can just fall right out of the headlines. A story like this just never comes up again...

Yeah well the shepherds of the gullible decided that the better pretend scare story to herd the sheep is the caravan thing about some poor refugees 1000 miles away.

My guess is this is an almost equally non story since he was granted bail. Some nut with pretend bombs probably.

What kind of alleged "terrorist" drives around with expired tabs just begging cops to pull him over? This story doesn't pass the smell test.

Osama & the boys preferred Toyotas because they apparently did well in the desert & mountainous areas and would last practically forever, some with over 500K miles on the engine. As opposed to Ford transmissions which are sometimes known to crap out crossing the Rocky Mountains on an interstate highway (or at least that's been my experience.)

Not exactly the type of road conditions one would find in Orange County CA. Or even Salinas, for that matter.
