BTW, John Oliver's fine muckraking journalism has led to NY's Attorney General to send a "cease and desist" letter to that fucking pile of shit Jim Baker over his fake Corona Virus silver cure...

Bakker was convicted in 1989 on multiple counts of fraud after he stole millions of dollars in a fundraising scandal. He spent five years in prison before returning to TV in 2003.

This is the worst thing about these cockroaches - it doesn't matter how much they are shown to be liars and fraudsters they just keep coming back.

The law should be stronger than a 'cease and desist' there should be a way to put the fuck straight out of business and preferably back to jail.

I dunno.

I went shopping yesterday. Plenty of TP in the store. I still licked the cart handle when I walked in, just like I always do. Two women threw up this time though.

My friend was in Washington last week. I saw her today, I got out of the car wearing a 3M mask for spray painting and a full face grinding shield :D

We have a crew of South Koreans coming to install a new machine at work. They will be quarantined two weeks and monitored by the local hospital system before stepping foot into the facility. My employer had already restricted travel to South Korea a week ago.

Biden and Sanders both cancel tonight's rallies in Cleveland. The Republican governor recommended it (that one's for FORD)

Gov. DeWine is recommending limited attendance by fans at sports events and a few colleges have suspended face-to-face lectures.

Big AutoRama is this weekend, I don't have tickets yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets canceled. The I-X Center issued a statement Monday that says the show will go on and there are plenty of hand sanitizer stations in the building.

Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson Test Positive for Coronavirus
Matt Donnelly

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have announced that they have tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus), the first celebrities to go public with a diagnosis.

Hanks and Wilson, both 63, revealed the news with a statement on Wednesday. The married couple was in Australia for production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley movie, in which Hanks is playing Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Read the statement below:

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

Take care of yourselves!”

Hanks and Wilson were the only known individuals on the film to contract the disease, insiders said. The film is currently in pre-production stages, meaning cameras have yet to roll, and is still making preparations to shoot. Testing measures for filmmakers and crew are presently unknown.

Warner Bros., the distributor behind the film, issued a statement shortly after Hanks and Wilson went public.

“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus),” the statement reads. “We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.”

The news broke just as President Donald Trump announced a 30-day suspension on travel from Europe to the United States due to the spread of coronavirus. Earlier on Wednesday, the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.

There have been more than 115,000 cases of coronavirus confirmed worldwide, and the disease has killed more than 4,200 people.

Deadline Hollywood first broke the news.

Stories about Trump’s coronavirus fears have spread through the White House. Last week Trump told aides he’s afraid journalists will try to purposefully contract coronavirus to give it to him on Air Force One, a person close to the administration told me. The source also said Trump has asked the Secret Service to set up a screening program and bar anyone who has a cough from the White House grounds. “He’s definitely melting down over this,” the source said.

NCAA tournaments canceled over coronavirus
ESPN News Services

The NCAA has called off its men's and women's basketball tournaments as part of a complete cancellation of all remaining spring and winter championships.

"This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities," the NCAA said in a statement Thursday.

The announcement is an abrupt end to a basketball season that had less than a month to go before champions were to be crowned.

The men's basketball tournament has been played every year since 1939, when Oregon won the championship in Evanston, Illinois. It has grown through the years, both in size and stature. The three-week tournament generates almost a billion dollars in revenue each year for the NCAA and its hundreds of member universities and colleges.

Thursday's decision by the NCAA follows the cancellation of 15 men's basketball conference tournaments earlier in the day and announcements by the ACC, Big Ten and other leagues suspending all athletic-related activity until further notice.

On Wednesday, the NCAA had announced the games that were scheduled to start next week would go on but played in mostly empty arenas. That plan was scrapped as major American sports leagues, including the NBA, NHL and MLB, put the brakes on their seasons due to concerns about the pandemic.

"This is a difficult time with so many conflicting emotions," Dawn Staley, coach of the No. 1-ranked South Carolina women's basketball team, said in a statement. "First and foremost, we have to recognize how important it is to do the right thing for our community. Sports is a big part of our lives, but just one part of how we are connected to each other. We need to step back and think about the larger good served by canceling events that put people at risk.

"As competitors, we are certainly disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to contend for a second National Championship. That said, it will not diminish the way we look at our season, how we value our body of work over the last few four months. We have measured ourselves against the best in the country over that time, and will embrace and relish that accomplishment."

Among the championships that were also canceled are hockey, softball, baseball and lacrosse. The decision to cancel baseball and softball drew a sharp response from SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.

"I'm surprised we've made a decision in March not to hold baseball and softball events in June," Sankey said on The Paul Finebaum Show. "I'd love to know what went into those decisions."

For most people, the coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover from the virus.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Just found this in my morning email avalanche.....

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremony Postponed

Thank you for your support of the Rock Hall and our mission to engage, teach, and inspire through the power of rock & roll.

The health and safety of our fans and visitors is our highest priority. Given recent news regarding coronavirus and the urging by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine regarding large public gatherings, we have made the decision to postpone the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Induction Week festivities until later this year. Additional details, including new dates and ticket information, will be announced shortly and shared directly with ticket holders and supporters. Details of the rescheduled HBO live broadcast of the event will be announced at a later date as well.

Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster for the Ceremony at Public Hall will be honored for the rescheduled date. Any Induction Fest Gold Passes or Watch Party tickets purchased through the Rock Hall will be refunded, and we will alert you via email of the opportunity to purchase those at a later date.

This week Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson issued a Proclamation of Civil Emergency with the goal of minimizing the impact, severity and duration of COVID-19 as it spreads. “To me, the most important thing is minimizing the impact [of the coronavirus]" said the Mayor. County Executive Armond Budish also issued a State of Emergency declaration yesterday that helped inform our decision.

Meanwhile, we are maintaining normal operating hours at the Museum. Any additional change of plans will be clearly communicated on our website. Please join us in following the preventive measures recommended by the Center for Disease Control:

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

If you are experiencing symptoms (fever, cough, and shortness of breath), stay home and take good care of yourself.

Thank you again for your ongoing support of our mission. We look forward
to welcoming you at the Museum and to honoring our 2020 Inductees
with you later this year.

Well that's what you get for inducting Whitney Houston, goddamn it!

Well, at least some of those shows aren't currently airing, so at worst their next seasons might be delayed. Being that this is mid march and the regular TV season usually wraps up in May, I would think most of them had already completed filming/taping/whatever for the current season, though they might be in the "post production" process.

If not, all the folks forced to stay at home for weeks at a time might get really fucking bored..... :sleepy:

The people I really feel sorry for are those that had booked a Disney/Universal Studio vacation especially people those that don't live in the US. Been there and these things are spectacularly expensive once or twice in a lifetime for most even above average income working families and I can't think of a way that they won't have been fucked by this without a refund for the majority of the cost.

If this thing hits properly then in the UK we will be in the insane position of not only a triple financial disaster of Corona, Brexit and low oil prices, but the already now minority of people that wanted Brexit will fall drastically from 45% as the elderly die and there is fuck all anyone can do about it.

Co-worker and his brood left for Orlando Friday morning. He's trying to get their Magic Kingdom tickets refunded. They rented a house so at least they'll be somewhere other (warmer) than here, probably won't have much to do though.

I'm on my week off. Wasn't really planning on going anywhere unless it's nice enough to ride outside. I have house projects I can be working on and enough supplies that I don't have to run out for anything, and if I did have to go, it would be at 6 am before Home Depot gets busy.

Everything but retail is shutting down. Live shows cancelled. Rock Hall closed for two weeks, as are most of the museums. Not sure about movie theaters though. Even the casinos are down now, MGM closed at midnight. I wasn't gonna go this week anyways.

Stores are getting cleaned out. Stupid panic buyers. Stopped again today, was able to pick up a couple things I couldn't get the night before. I'll be okay for a few weeks.

Missed this earlier and admittedly it was a while back.

It's a virus and not bacterial. It's not alive and antibiotics don't affect it.

I know there is a disclaimer about that at the end but still it's not a funny enough song to justify more shitty information at a time like this IMHO.

Judging by supermarkets I've been in over the last couple of weeks 95%+ of people don't get that because any soap with the phrase anti bacterial has been sold out.

Jeff Bezos, World’s Richest Man, Wants Your Donations To Help Amazon Employees
by Alan Macleod

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the world’s first centibillionaire, a man who vies with Bill Gates for the title of the planet’s richest individual, is asking the public for donations to provide basic support to his 800,000 employees who are suffering in poverty in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bezos announced:

“We are establishing the Amazon Relief Fund with a $25 million initial contribution focused on supporting our independent delivery service partners and their drivers, Amazon Flex participants, and seasonal employees under financial distress during this challenging time.”

The fund will also support both employees and contractors around the world that face economic hardship due to natural disasters or unforeseen personal circumstances. Those who qualify can apply for a grant of up to $5,000.

“I’ve never been more proud of our teams around the world. People are supporting one another, taking care of themselves and others while also doing what we do best, which is serving customers,” said Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Amazon.

Amazon set up a relief fund for its employees and is asking us to donate.

Amazon is worth nearly $1 trillion.

Amazon paid a negative federal income tax rate in 2018. They paid nothing but got millions in government subsidies.

How is this real. https://t.co/MiLArAnTdA

— Rob Hart (@robwhart) March 21, 2020

A man worth over $100 billion, who makes, on average, $230,000 per minute calling on the public to help his own impoverished employees was not met well by many. Amazon itself is worth over $1 trillion, and some felt Bezos himself was in a better position than others, especially members of the public also economically hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, to help his own staff. Furthermore, the company is notorious as a bad employer. Forced to forego bathroom breaks, many company warehouse workers are effectively compelled to wear diapers during their shifts. Other employees report working in unsafe environments and being punished for injuries sustained on the job. The company also does not provide its employees with regular access to clean water.

Amazon workers are poor. Really poor. In Arizona, for example, the company’s own data suggests that one in three employees depend upon food stamps to put food on the table. It is the twenty-eighth largest employer in the state. However, it ranked fifth on the list for most employees enrolled in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). Across the United States, it is a similar story. In Pennsylvania, for instance, Amazon is the nineteenth largest employer but is in fifth place on the SNAP employees list of corporations. And amidst the deadly COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe, the job is one of the more dangerous around, as workers are constantly on the move, handling a great number of packages and in close proximity to others. Despite its poor pay, the job is considered essential to the upkeep of society.

I can’t even process this…

Amazon — you know, the one run by the richest man, the one whose sales have shot up during a pandemic — is doing an online fundraiser. Asking all of us to donate to support its warehouse temps & flex drivers hit by Covid.

— Stacy Mitchell (@stacyfmitchell) March 20, 2020

Bezos’ charitable donations often garner him considerable praise in the media. His donation of one million Australian dollars to aid the bushfires in January generated headlines proclaiming his generosity. But as MintPress reported, that was equivalent to just three minutes’ income, as generous as a person making $20,000 per year donating a dime. Linsey McGoey, Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex, UK, told MintPress that, “philanthropy can and is being used deliberately to divert attention away from different forms of economic exploitation that underpin global inequality today.”

In other news, Amazon employees in Chicago announced yesterday that, through collective action, they had forced the company to agree to paid time off for all U.S. warehouse workers, something that will be especially useful in the current circumstances. “Almost a year ago, in the summer of 2019, a small crew of us got fed up with Amazon’s bullshit and met up outside of work because we felt we had to do something,” they said, proclaiming victory.

In the U.S., the company is currently increasing recruitment to deal with a sharp surge in sales. On the other hand, the government of France has suspended all non-essential Amazon deliveries in a bid to cut down on contagion rates. The company has also been forced to halt price gouging on its website of key products like hand sanitizer.

While Bezos asks for donations, he appears to genuinely not have considered using his own wealth to help those in need. In 2018 he lamented that “the only way that I can see to deploy this much financial resource is by converting my Amazon winnings into space travel. That is basically it.” His employees might have other ideas about how he could use his fortune.

If he gave his 800 000 staff $2500 a month for 5 months that's only 10% of his cash.

Virginia Pastor Who Said COVID-19 Was Anti-Trump “Mass Hysteria” Dies of Virus

Yesterday, one of the first deaths of a Virginia resident from COVID-19 was a Christian musical evangelist who, believing the pandemic response to be anti-Trump “mass hysteria,” took his family to New Orleans to “wash it from its Sin and debauchery.”

A Gretna man who had double pneumonia and tested positive for COVID-19 in Concord North Carolina died around 4 a.m. Wednesday, the family reports.

Landon Spradlin, 66, was an accomplished blues musician who pastored several different churches over the years.

Spradlin was in New Orleans with his wife, Jean Spradlin, when he started getting sick. On their way back to Gretna on March 17, his condition worsened to the point where he could hardly breathe…

The Roanoke Times described Spradlin as a “traveling musical minister” and “fine guitarist” with a “powerful soul-blues voice,” at one time “a significant part of the Roanoke-area blues scene.”

On his Facebook page, Spradlin had posted many photos and videos of his family, his band, and himself performing and sightseeing in New Orleans beginning on what seems February 21 through March 10. Much of his time appeared to be in crowded Jackson Square, where his band played in what he called his “Jackson Square Ministry.” Other locations included performing in intimate music clubs, dining in restaurants, and walking on Bourbon Street.

On Feb. 28, he posted “We had an awesome Mardi Gras outreach this year. Many were touched by the power and love of Jesus!!”

I do work in the field of medical statistics and so going to the people that know about this stuff rather than failed businessmen with a hunch here are the best stats we have at the moment.

Twice as infectious as flu, ten times as deadly.

The chance of death is the same as it is for anything else. i.e. it isn't an old person's disease it simply kills in proportion to the usual deaths by age background lifestyle etc. It just does it quicker and so this disease if you do nothing kills about a years worth of extra people. So a years worth of 80 year old fat people with asthma is lot more than a years worth of 30 year old runners but the numbers are in proportion. The do nothing number for the UK is/was around 600 000 dead.

The US would then be around 5 times that by population, take a bit off for a much more spread out population add a bunch due to mixed messages form Trump. That could be 3 million dead in the worst case scenario, the Trump scenario of get back to work or I might no t get re-elected scenario.

New York (CNN Business)

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo said Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with Covid-19.
He is feeling well, and will continue to anchor his 9 p.m. program "Cuomo Prime Time" from his home.
"In these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus," Cuomo wrote in a message on Twitter.
"I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fevers, chills and shortness of breath," he wrote. "I just hope I didn't give it to the kids and Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness!"

Cuomo was most recently at CNN's offices in the Hudson Yards neighborhood of New York City last Friday. He anchored from his home on Monday, and interviewed his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. The two men traded brotherly barbs about the anchorman's basement live shot location.
Cuomo said Tuesday that he is "quarantined in my basement" and will "do my shows from here."
"We will all beat this by being smart and tough and united!" he wrote on Twitter.

Governor Cuomo spoke about his brother's positive test result at New York state's daily briefing on Tuesday.
"This virus is the great equalizer," he said. "My brother, Chris, is positive for coronavirus. Found out this morning."
The governor called Chris "my best friend" and added a little bit of the good-natured ribbing they're known for: "He's young; in good shape; strong -- not as strong as he thinks, but -- he'll be fine."

The two brothers spoke by phone earlier on Tuesday. "Now he's quarantined in the basement," the governor said. "But he's funny as hell, he says to me, 'Even the dogs won't come downstairs.'"

This is the third case of coronavirus involving CNN's workspace in New York City. Employees were notified of another case in mid-March.
Like other media companies, CNN has implemented sweeping changes in response to the pandemic. The vast majority of CNN employees have been working from home for several weeks. Anchors have been broadcasting from small studios and home offices. And office spaces are being regularly cleaned.

It has to be over 65% alcohol so in the US thats 130 proof which you don't often see.

I had a 70% thing once but it made me go a bit weird.

In the Uk converting proof to % alcohol is more complicated, go google it yourself if you need to but suffice to say almost no commercially available vodka is strong enough so don't waste it.

Mad king Trump angers the gods
Published 1 min ago on April 1, 2020 By Thom Hartmann, Independent Media Institute - Commentary

In the 4,000-year-old “Epic of Gilgamesh,” the arrogant eponymous king killed Humbaba, the giant guardian of the forest so that he could cut down the cedar stands in what is now northern Iraq to build his great city of Uruk. Gilgamesh’s people then diverted the Euphrates River to irrigate fields of barley.

To avenge Humbaba’s murder and the destruction of the forest, the gods cursed Gilgamesh and his people. One Sumerian writer mourned that “the earth turned white. It was one of our first stories about environmental destruction—in this case, a salt buildup from irrigation that turned the fields to desert.

The histories of most ancient civilizations carry similar stories of when their god or gods turned against the people and millions died because of environmentally destructive practices.

If Gilgamesh’s poet were to write the “Epic” today, it might go something like this:

The people of the Earth pulled out of the depths of the planet its blood—ancient sunlight fossil fuels captured millions of years ago by plants—and burned it to drive a powerful civilization. They tortured the Earth and its inhabitants by drilling and mining and fracking. So the gods protecting the Earth warned them, bringing plagues of cancer. But these warnings were ignored.

The people burned so much ancient sunlight into the sky that the atmosphere began to die. The gods protecting the Earth warned them by starting a great warming, changing the face of Arctic regions and bringing extreme floods, droughts, and wildfires across the planet. But these warnings were ignored, too.

So the gods said, “We must stop humankind from poisoning our Mother Earth. Let us send a plague that will strike dead their wise elders and brokers of political power. Surely that will get their attention and cause them to cease their violence against us.”

So they sent the Queen of Disease, wearing her royal crown, to aid Mother Earth. The people called her “Corona,” and she struck down their elders, sickened the rest of their people, and spared only the young. It was to remind them of the Passover story of “The Plague of the Firstborn”: If the warnings were not heeded, there would be death and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

In response, the people “sheltered in place” and the great cities of the Earth became quiet. They realized, with horror, how the false god of neoliberalism had destroyed their resilience and their ability to care for each other solely to enrich a handful of oligarchs.

It’s as if the Earth goddess Gaia herself designed the coronavirus.

All across the planet, carbon-burning industrial and transportation activity have ground to a near halt while pollution levels have collapsed. So much oil is not being burned that the countries of the world are running out of places to store it. Notably, the one industry that is thriving, the internet, was among the first to embrace clean, carbon-free energy.

In some distant time, the story will be told of how arrogant King Trump caused the gods to turn against him because of his lies and procrastination, and millions died.

Will it be, like the “Epic of Gilgamesh” and so many others, a story of a sick and twisted leader who courted disaster by ignoring the warnings of the gods, thus allowing his people to be wiped out? Or will it be a story of how humanity accepted the warning, turned its back on evil leaders, stopped poisoning the Earth and started caring for all life?

Ultimately, the choice is ours.

Conservative pastor who refused to close church amid coronavirus pandemic suggests God will help by multiplying toilet rolls
By Christina Zhao On 3/29/20 at 9:12 PM EDT

A conservative evangelical pastor has suggested to his followers that God will help multiply their toilet rolls amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a clip posted to Twitter, pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, leader of the Florida-based Revival Ministries International, told his congregation that "this should be a time of supernatural sustenance, where what you have in your hand will multiply."

"And every day there will be multiplications," he continued. "You look at your toilet paper and you think I'm going to run out of toilet paper, but you have another roll where that one was and you don't know how did that even take place."

Howard-Brown added: "Are the toilet paper rolls getting together and having families now? What is taking place? When you look again, there's still enough. You think you're going to run out but when you look again there's still enough. That's supernatural sustenance."

Newsweek reached out to Howard-Browne's church for comment.

As COVID-19 rapidly spread across the country, threatening American life and rattling global economies, Howard-Browne on March 16 told his followers at the River Tampa Bay Church that he will not be closing down because they are not "pansies."

"We are not stopping anything," he said. "I've got news for you, this church will never close. The only time the church will close is when the Rapture is taking place.

"This Bible school is open because we're raising up revivalists, not pansies," Howard-Browne added.

He also told his congregation to shake each other's hands, despite the federal government urging social distancing in an attempt to contain the virus. "Well I know they don't want us to do this, but just turn around and greet two, three people. Tell them you love them, Jesus loves them," Howards-Browne said, according to the website Right Wing Watch. "Listen, this has to be the safest place. If you cannot be saved in church, you in serious trouble."

Report: Sen. Kelly Loeffler Downplayed the Coronavirus, Simultaneously Invested In Maker of Protective Gear

The Georgia senator and her husband bought shares of a company that manufactures personal protective gear right around the time she claimed Democrats were misleading the public on the dangers of COVID-19.

BY BESS LEVIN

APRIL 1, 2020

https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/5e74cffc79d3fb0008ca2d90/master/w_2560%2Cc_limit/kellyloeffler.jpg

arlier this month, as the urgency of the coronavirus crisis sunk in for people or presidents who’d previously brushed it off, we learned that a handful of senators who’d downplayed the risks of the virus for months had also conveniently dumped millions in stock before the market fell off a cliff. Among the group was Georgia’s Kelly Loeffler, who reportedly sold stocks worth between $1,275,000 and $3,100,000 between January 24—when she sat in on a meeting of lawmakers, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—and mid-February, not long before she tweeted: “Democrats have dangerously and intentionally misled the American people on #Coronavirus readiness. Here’s the truth: @realDonaldTrump & his administration are doing a great job working to keep Americans healthy & safe.” Now, new disclosures show even more selling of stocks in the weeks that followed, plus an extremely well-timed investment in a company that just happens to make the sort of medical equipment that is in extremely short supply at the moment.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, between February 26 and March 11, Loeffler and her husband, Jeff Sprecher, who is the chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, sold $18.7 million worth of shares of the Intercontinental Exchange (the parent company of the NYSE). During that same time period, the couple also sold shares in retail companies like T.J. Maxx and Lululemon. And then there’s this:

Sprecher bought $206,774 in chemical giant DuPont de Nemours in four transactions in late February and early March. DuPont has performed poorly on Wall Street lately, but the company is a major supplier of desperately needed personal protective gear as the global pandemic strains hospital and first responders.

Loeffler has maintained she did nothing wrong and that an investment firm makes the day-to-day decisions for her and her husband’s portfolio. In a statement, spokesperson Kerry Rom said “Senator Loeffler came to Washington on a promise to be a different kind of elected official, she holds herself to high standards of ethics and transparency, including acting in accordance with both the letter and spirit of the law, which she has done at every step of her time in the Senate and in her lengthy career in financial services.” In a tweet, four-term congressman and GOP rival Doug Collins blasted Loeffler, writing “People are losing their jobs, their businesses, their retirements, and even their lives and Kelly Loeffler is profiting off their pain. I’m sickened just thinking about it.” In a statement texted to the Wall Street Journal, Stephen Lawson, a spokesman for Loeffler’s campaign said: “These false attacks against Senator Loeffler—from the Left, from fake news media, from career politicians—are exactly why people are fed up with Washington.”

Earlier this week, CNN reported that the Department of Justice had launched a probe into trades made by various lawmakers ahead of the market downturn. Thus far, the FBI, in coordination with the DOJ, is said to have reached out to Senator Richard Burr, who sold between $628,000 and $1.7 million in 33 separate transactions on February 13, less than a week after he told the public it had absolutely nothing to fear re: COVID-19. (Thus far there is no indication Burr broke any laws or violated Senate rules, and he maintains he did nothing wrong.)

Fox News Moguls Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch Stockpile Attorneys Against Coronavirus Lawsuits
‘BIG BAD FOX’
After one non-profit org sued the network for pushing coronavirus misinformation, the network is readying to go to war against more such lawsuits.

Lachlan Cartwright
Senior Reporter
Lloyd Grove
Editor At Large
Updated Apr. 03, 2020 5:27PM ET / Published Apr. 03, 2020 3:14PM ET

Amid the mushrooming coronavirus crisis, Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch are girding for a pandemic of public-interest lawsuits over misinformation and conspiracy theories dispensed by certain Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network personalities such as Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Trish Regan.

According to a top Murdoch executive, the father-and-son media moguls are ready to go to war with potential plaintiffs such as the Washington League for Increased Transparency and Ethics—aka WASHLITE—an activist non-profit that filed suit on Thursday against Rupert Murdoch, Fox News, and other defendants.

The 10-page complaint, first reported by The Times of San Diego and filed in the superior court of Washington state’s King County, seeks a judgment that the Murdoch-controlled outlets violated the state’s consumer protection laws by “falsely and deceptively disseminating ‘News’ via cable news contracts that the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19 was a ‘Hoax,’ and that the virus was otherwise not a danger to public health and safety.”

The lawsuit, which seeks “nominal damages” and “reasonable attorneys’ fees,” demands an injunction to prevent Fox outlets from “otherwise interfering with or undermining the legitimate control measures imposed within the State of Washington for the limited time period under which the pandemic is brought under control and until the pandemic is brought under control.”

The lawsuit doesn’t list specific examples of the alleged “campaign of deception spread by the Defendants”—who also include the AT&T and Comcast cable services—but WASHLITE plans to do so in a future court filing.

The conservative outlet fired back—in a statement provided to The Daily Beast, and attributed to Lily Fu Claffee, Fox News Media’s general counsel—that WASHLITE’s lawsuit is “Wrong on the facts, frivolous on the law.”

Claffee added, “We will defend vigorously and seek sanctions as appropriate.”

WASHLITE board member Arthur West, a non-lawyer and former automobile mechanic who earns what he describes as a handsome living as a professional public-interest plaintiff, told The Daily Beast that he’s not impressed by Claffee’s vow to seek retribution: “We are not afraid of the big bad Fox.”

As for possible sanctions against him and his group, “I’m pretty sure they’ll try something like that, because that’s what bullies do,” West said, noting that WASHLITE was launched by him and four other environmental, public interest, and open records activists around three years ago.

“We studied at the Rooster Cogburn school of litigation”—a reference to the fictional U.S. marshal in Charles Portis' novel True Grit and and the two John Wayne movies it inspired.

West, 59, said he has been arrested numerous times in protest and civil-disobedience incidents, but claimed the rewards of successful lawsuits have allowed him to afford a lovely house in Olympia, Wash., overlooking Puget Sound and a fleet of pricey sports cars. He insisted this latest litigation against Fox is not a public-relations stunt.

“We’re as serious as a heart attack when we go into court,” West said.

Fox Hosts Downplay Coronavirus. Network Bosses Are Spooked.
“This might seem strange to you,” he added, “but I make a very good living beating the government in court”—mostly suing local jurisdictions, politicians, and taxpayer-funded agencies using Washington’s public records and open records laws. “I’ve gotten a number of six-figure awards… I have a collection of European sports cars. I drive a Jaguar. I have three Mercedes 450 SLs and an Alfa Romeo. My house overlooks the water, and it was purchased with money from the liquor control board.”

West won a $192,000 settlement after filing an open-meetings lawsuit against the agency that governs Washington’s legalized marijuana industry.

The Murdoch exec, however, said his bosses won’t cave so easily. Former Fox Business anchor Trish Regan—who on March 9 claimed that the enemies of President Donald Trump were plotting to use the novel coronavirus outbreak to re-impeach him—lost her show, in part, to mollify a chorus of Fox critics.

“She was a sacrificial lamb,” said the exec. But this person added that the Murdochs are done making such concessions.

“The strategy is no settlements, even if it costs way more to fight the lawsuit and seek sanctions for ambulance-chasing lawyers,” the Murdoch exec told The Daily Beast, noting that the Murdochs retained Williams & Connolly in 2018 and engineered the dismissal of two federal lawsuits over Fox News’ conspiracy-mongering in the July 2016 robbery shooting-death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

The current lawsuit, and others like it, could meet with a similar fate on First Amendment grounds. New York Times op-ed columnist Kara Swisher, for one, wrote in a column attacking Fox News for allegedly dispensing dangerous coronavirus disinformation to her eighty-something mother: “Lawsuits are a bad idea. Here’s why: I believe in Fox News’s First Amendment right as a press organization, even if some of its on-air talent did not mind being egregiously bad at their jobs when it came to giving out accurate health data.”

And former Fox News star Megyn Kelly, an attorney by training, recently tweeted at NYU journalism professor Jay Rosen: “Anyone filing such a lawsuit would be laughed out of court and likely sanctioned by the court for filing a frivolous lawsuit. But, whatever you need to tell yourself to stay occupied during quarantine...”

I think 'manipulate you' is a bit strong, manipulate you into not spreading the worst virus in 100 years?

It's a point though and I did notice it myself. The US is probably still in the top 10 though I don't trust Iran's figures(or Russia's) and since those graphs were done the UK has leapfrogged the US. This is a marathon not a sprint and the virus doesn't respect borders. Until there is a vaccine then we are all at risk and can't live normally while it's somewhere in the world. It's not really hit developing countries yet.

One variable in all those numbers that isn't reflected... percentage tested. That figure varies widely country to country.

In the US, I'd say we're just now testing widely people who are symptomatic and most likely still not fully covering all who may carry the virus. Just in the last week or so has a decent number of tests become available for many areas of the US, outside of the hot spots. I expect numbers will continue to climb for another couple of weeks just based on testing availability, not necessarily due to an increase of the spread.

Feds Warn Alex Jones to Stop Hawking Coronavirus Scams
WHACK A TROLL
The FDA sent a letter to the infamous conspiracy theorist on Thursday saying he needed to stop pushing colloidal silver as a therapy for COVID-19

The Food and Drug Administration is demanding that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones stop advertising dubious dietary supplements as coronavirus treatments and threatening legal action if he doesn’t comply.

The FDA sent a letter to Jones and his website InfoWars on Thursday demanding that he stop telling the viewers of his popular internet broadcasts that they can ward off the virus with colloidal silver products sold on his website. Those videos, the FDA wrote, “misleadingly represent them as safe and/or effective for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19.”

A failure to remove those claims, the agency added, “may result in legal action seeking a Federal District Court injunction and an order may require that you pay back money to consumers.”

Jones, who is famous for fabricating conspiracy theories and marketing dubious health supplements, has been hawking supposed coronavirus-killing colloidal silver products in videos with titles like “Deep State Using Coronavirus Fear and Panic To Destroy Our Country.” In one video posted last month, he told viewers of his ”Nano Silver” supplements: “the Pentagon has come out and documented, and homeland security have said this stuff kills the whole SARS corona family, at point blank range.”

Colloidal silver is a liquid that contains tiny particles of the metal. A number of scammers and natural medicine enthusiasts have marketed it as a coronavirus treatment since the outbreak hit the U.S. There is no scientific basis for those claims.

Despite Jones’ on-air claims to the contrary, language on InfoWars’ online marketplace explicitly states that its colloidal silver products are not designed to treat the virus. “The products on this site are not intended for use in the cure, treatment, prevention or mitigation of any disease, including the novel coronavirus,” the website warns. “Any suggestion to the contrary is false and is expressly disavowed.”

Jones and InfoWars were also targeted by authorities in New York last month over his claims about the products’ ability to ward off the coronavirus. The state’s attorney general sent InfoWars a cease and desist letter demanding it stop airing dubious claims about its products’ health benefits.

Jones is among the most prominent right-wing media personalities targeted by government regulators. But others, such as Missouri televangelist Jim Bakker, have received similar warnings. The FDA wrote Bakker a letter last month demanding he stop marketing similar silver products as coronavirus treatments.

Yes he would have broke it up if he could, we have had conservatives in power for 10 years so any spare capacity in our healthcare system was seen as being wasteful.

Semi-nonsense. I do take supplements daily, but vitamins every other day, as you can get a build up of some vitamins that can be toxic, such as E. There are some that have been shown in peer reviewed studies to help. I take Vitamin D because I am shown to have a minor deficiency and it definitely boosts the immune system. Also, things like milk thistle and turmeric would be good for your liver. :) And turmeric has been shown to be an antiviral in some studies, and is a passive anti-inflammatory...

But I do agree the "colloidal/salt mines/organic absorption based/silver" bullshit is nonsense and you're just better off buying the cheapest multivitamin confirmed in studies to contain what it says -as long as taken in the correct amount and with food...

Hey I'm saying that but I get my anxious moments too so I have some multi vitamins and some vitamin D in my drawer here. 95% of the time I forget to take them. :)

Funny thing is that the thing I think that has helped me with bugs and shit after spending the 90s eating vitamin C pills and so on was about 10 years ago when I got into hand washing, hand sanitizers and using my knuckles to press buttons on ATMs and so on. My cold and flu bugs reduced hugely although I would get the piss taken out of me sometimes by friends for being a bit anal about it. I wasn't Howard Hughs but just aware of it. I used to body build and you can either eat a ton of meat or take a good protein supplement. You got to have the protein to build the muscles. So there is a place for supplements. Most people would be fine if they ate a good balanced diet, got some exercise and kept the weight off. I find it funny when fat people obsess over supplements when they really should be on a serious diet and getting some exercise. Their obesity is going to kick their ass before what they are worrying about will.

Protesting for the Freedom to Catch the Coronavirus
The reopen America protests are the logical conclusion of a twisted liberty movement.

At a string of small “reopen America” protests across the country this week, mask-less citizens proudly flouted social distancing guidance while openly carrying semiautomatic rifles and waving American flags and signs with “ironic” swastikas. They organized chants to lock up female Democrat governors and to fire the country’s top infectious disease experts. At one point during protests at the Michigan Capitol, the group’s orchestrated gridlock blocked an ambulance en route to a nearby hospital.

For those who’ve chosen to put their trust in science during the pandemic it’s hard to fathom the decision to gather to protest while a deadly viral pathogen — transmitted easily by close contact and spread by symptomatic and asymptomatic people alike — ravages the country. But it shouldn’t come as a surprise. This week’s public displays of defiance — a march for the freedom to be infected — are the logical conclusion of the modern far-right’s donor-funded, shock jock-led liberty movement. It was always headed here.

Few demonstrate this movement better than Alex Jones of Infowars — one of the key figures of Saturday’s “You Can’t Close America” rally on the steps of the Capitol building in Austin, Tex. For decades, Mr. Jones has built a thriving media empire harnessing (real and understandable) fear, paranoia and rage, which in turn drive sales of vitamin supplements and prepper gear in his personal store. The Infowars strategy is simple: Instill a deep distrust in all authority, while promoting a seductive, conspiratorial alternate reality in which Mr. Jones, via his outlandish conspiracies, has all the answers. He’s earned the trust of a non-trivial number of Americans, and used it to stoke his ego and his bank account. And he never lets reality get in the way (case in point, holding a stay-at-home order protest in Texas the day after the state announced it would begin efforts to carefully reopen in coming weeks).

Former employees have described Mr. Jones to me as master of manipulating the truth into a convenient worldview in which Infowars and its listeners are constantly victimized by powerful institutional forces. “We kept saying ‘We’re the underdogs’ — that was our mantra,” one former employee told me in 2017. To make this work, Mr. Jones molds the day’s news into conspiratorial fables.

A novel virus — about which so much is unknown and where expert opinion is constantly shifting — is a near perfect subject for Infowars to fit the news to its paranoid narrative. Uncertainty over the virus’s origins in China is a springboard to float unproven theories about bioweapons. Discussions about a vaccine to end the epidemic become conspiracies about billionaire tech leaders pushing population control. Changing epidemiological models that show fewer projected Covid-19 deaths (because social distancing has worked to slow infections) provide an opening for Mr. Jones to rant about stay-at-home lockdowns. Genuine fears about deeply unfair job losses and economic recession become reckless theories about Democrat-led plans to punish American citizens by driving them into poverty.

Jones’ opportunistic rantings fit neatly into a larger right-wing strategy, which has grown alongside Infowars. Just as Infowars rallies are tied to the media outlet’s financial interest in antigovernment paranoia, a few of this week’s rallies have been underwritten by political organizations with ties to the Republican Party and the Trump administration. Regardless of who’s behind them, the intent is to sow division and attempt to reshape public opinion. As Vox’s Jane Coaston wrote, they’re “designed to pit Republican-voting areas of states against their Democratic-voting neighbors, even rural Republicans against urban Republicans.”

It’s important to note that the reopen protests have been generally small (at most, hundreds of people in states of millions of citizens responsibly staying at home) and don’t even reflect the polled opinions of many conservatives. But they fit neatly into a larger campaign playbook and take on outsize importance. They take place frequently in swing states or states with Democratic governors and are plastered across social media, reported in mainstream organizations, openly cheered on by Fox News and right-wing media, and ultimately end up amplified (tacitly or explicitly) by the president. The strategy has worked well in recent years, consolidating support among the Trump base.

As a political movement, the Make America Great Again crowd relishes turning criticism from ideological opponents into a badge of honor. Confrontation of any kind is currency and people taking offense to their actions is a surefire sign that they’re correct. The MAGA mind-set prioritizes freedom above all — especially the freedom from introspection, apologizing or ever admitting defeat. But the movement, which has been building since the Tea Party protests, has created a reflexive response among both Jones’s audience and far-right Trump supporters.

This response is disguised as an expression of liberty, but it’s a twisted, paranoid and racialized version. Slate editor Tom Scocca defined it recently as a political ideology where supporters are “conditioned to believe that thinking about other people’s needs or interests in any way is tyranny by definition.” This wholesale rejection of collective thinking is, as Vice’s Anna Merlan notes, the cornerstone of the anti-vaccine and “health freedom” movements, which reject public health because they “don’t think their choices affect other people.”

Unmentioned by the protesters are the workers actually keeping America open, many of them afraid for their health, with no choice and in communities devastated by the virus. The result, as my Times colleagues described Saturday, is “images of nearly all-white protesters demanding the governor relax restrictions while hoisting Trump signs and Confederate battle flags, as the virus disproportionately impacts Michigan’s black residents.”

This coronavirus protest movement is merely the confluence of this perverted liberty ideology — honed and pushed by Mr. Jones, right-wing interest groups and pro-Trump media — and the dynamics of an online information ecosystem that prioritizes conflict to generate attention. When Infowars-style tactics meet online platforms the result is a flattening of all nuanced arguments of science and politics into a simplified struggle between patriots and tyrants. Small protests incorrectly blossom into a false national narrative.

And so here we are in 2020, protesting statewide lockdowns intended to save lives while thousands of Americans across the country grow sick and die each day. That a virus that demands a united front — where our public health is only as strong as our least vigilant citizens — should come at a moment of extreme polarization is a tragedy. But this moment is what we’ve been headed toward for years. And so the “reopen America” protests feel unconscionable and yet completely predictable. The playbook isn’t new. The only thing that’s changed are the stakes, which get higher every day.

Two stories I saw today

Top vaccine expert says he was fired for resisting Trump on hydroxychloroquine

Rick Bright, who directed key government agency, tells New York Times refusal to embrace unproven treatment led to departure

A senior US government doctor who worked on the search for a coronavirus vaccine has claimed he was fired after resisting Donald Trump’s push to use the unproven drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Rick Bright was this week ousted as director of the US health department’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, or Barda, and as the deputy assistant secretary for preparedness and response.

In a stunningly candid statement, Bright highlighted his refusal to embrace hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug relentlessly promoted by the president and Fox News despite a lack of scientific studies.

“Specifically, and contrary to misguided directives, I limited the broad use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, promoted by the administration as a panacea, but which clearly lack scientific merit,” Bright said.

“While I am prepared to look at all options and to think ‘outside the box’ for effective treatments, I rightly resisted efforts to provide an unproven drug on demand to the American public.”

Trump repeatedly touted hydroxychloroquine as therapy for coronavirus, pointing to a Democratic state representative in Michigan who claimed it benefited her and frequently asking: “What do you have to lose?”

As coronavirus outbreaks continue to emerge far outside coastal urban areas, there's cause for concern in Iowa. As Rachel explained on the show last night, there have been dramatic reports out of Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Sioux City in recent weeks, in a state where Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) never issued a statewide stay-at-home order.

What's more, it's difficult to be optimistic about the near future. The Des Moines Register reported yesterday that researchers at University of Iowa warned Reynolds' administration (https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/health/2020/04/28/university-iowa-researchers-warn-kim-reynolds-administration-second-coronavirus-wave/3040849001/) to maintain existing mitigation efforts or "a second wave of infections is likely."

The article added, "The warning was included in a 12-page report sent last week to the Iowa Department of Public Health from a team of researchers at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. The report said researchers found signs of a slowdown in COVID-19 infection and mortality rates in Iowa, 'but not that a peak has been reached.'"

Despite the warnings, and the fact that some of the nation's fastest-growing outbreaks are unfolding in her state, Iowa's GOP governor is moving forward with plans to re-open parts of the state as early as Friday.

But let's say you're one of the Iowans who's currently at home because of the public-health crisis, and you're not too keen on the idea of rushing back to the workplace in a state where the threat is quite real. Let's also say your employer has been directed by the state to re-open its doors.

As the Des Moines Register also reported, Kim Reynolds' administration apparently has a message for you, too.

Iowa is warning furloughed workers that they will lose their unemployment benefits if they refuse to return when their employer calls them back to work.... Iowa Workforce Development said Monday that failing to return to work out of fear of catching the virus will be considered a voluntary quit, which disqualifies workers from receiving unemployment benefits.

In fact, as the governor takes steps to re-open 77 of the state's 99 counties this week, Iowa's Workforce Development department is urging employers to report workers who don't return to their jobs.

In other words, many Iowans who may not be altogether comfortable with the governor's decision aren't being given much of a choice: go back to work during a pandemic or lose the financial benefits keeping many families afloat.

Reynolds, for what it's worth, won a competitive statewide race in 2018 by less than three percentage points. She won't be up for re-election until 2022.

Now that the US Coronavirus death toll is over 60,000, the sick fuck has literally killed more Americans than the Vietnam War.

And just as it was with that illegal war, most of those deaths could have been avoided, if the people with brains would have acted in time to stop it. :(

And I thought Chimpy's 3,000 on 9/11, another 2,000 in Katrina, and 10,00 or so dead Americans in his dumb PNAC wars was about as bad as it could get..... you can bet that monkey boy's probably feeling pretty good about himself right now. :puke:

Florida curtails reporting of coronavirus death numbers by county medical examiners
David Knowles

Yahoo NewsMay 1, 2020, 1:35 PM EDT
https://ratchetfridaymedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Florida-Governor-Believes-The-Super-Bowl-In-Miami-Contributed-To-Spread-of-COVID-19-678x381.jpg
Florida health officials have halted the publication of up-to-the-minute death statistics related to the coronavirus pandemic that have, by law, been compiled by medical examiners in the state.

The death count compiled by the Medical Examiners Commission was often found to be higher than the figures provided by Florida’s Department of Health, the Tampa Bay Times reported, prompting a review of the data and a suspension of its publication.

State officials have not specified what they find objectionable about the medical examiners’ count, nor when they might allow it to be made public again, the Times said.

According to the state Department of Health, 34,728 people in Florida have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and 1,337 people have died from it, as of Friday morning.

Dr. Stephen Nelson, chairman of the state Medical Examiners Commission, told the Tampa Bay Times that state officials informed him that they would remove the cause of death and a description of each case from statistics published by the examiners.

“This is no different than any other public record we deal with,” Nelson said. “It’s paid for by taxpayer dollars and the taxpayers have a right to know.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that the state would begin lifting coronavirus restrictions for some businesses everywhere but Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, which have been particularly hard hit by the virus.

“These counties have seen the lion’s share of the state’s epidemic,” DeSantis said, “but they are trending in a positive direction.”

The day before DeSantis’s order, Florida reported 83 deaths from COVID-19, the highest number to date. On Friday the state reported another 47 deaths and 1,038 new cases of COVID-19.

Fewer than 2 percent of Florida’s 21.5 million residents have been tested for the virus, the Miami Herald reported on Friday. Of residents who have been tested, 9 percent have come back positive for the virus, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

I voted for DeSantis's opponent in 2018. If memory recalls, DeSantis won the election in a relative squeaker. DeSantis's 2018 opponent, Andrew Gillum, was found this past March in a Miami Beach hotel room with two other men, one of whom was a reported gay male escort. Along with the men were quantities of what was suspected to be crystal meth. Gillum, who is married to a woman and claims to be a heterosexual non-drug user, has now entered the requisite "rehab" program that many in the public eye do after being caught in such circumstances.

DeSantis has floundered in recent weeks with the mass unemployment claims going unanswered or rejected. DeSantis's default response has been to blame his predecessor, current Florida Senator then-Governor Rick Scott, for the current situation of the state unemployment website frequently crashing leaving literally millions of Floridians unable to get their unemployment claims processed and get relief by way of the checks. Well, hey, DeSantis voluntarily ran for this job. To be sure, Florida has spent the past decade and a half lowering the cap on claims, lowering the amount of weeks one can be on the dole and lessening the amount of staff to process claims. And that was all good and well when there was work to be found. Now, you, DeSantis, have a crisis on your hands. Fix it. You wanted this job. Time is of the essence.

As to the rest of the article, it wouldn't be surprising if the released FDH figures are lower than the count compiled by the FMEC: with less than 2% of the residents having been tested, who the fuck knows how many people in the state actually have it, or had it? Just 2 nursing homes in one county (neither home either in or near Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach) within 5 miles of each other down here a week ago reported 23 deaths between the two locations and 100+ infections between residents and staff.

As insane as it sounds, though, I understand people wanting to get things opened up again and get back to work. The massive federal small business loan/grant plan hasn't trickled down quickly enough in terms of getting money into business owners hands. Neither has the unemployment money with the attached $600 per week federal sweetener. A lot of people haven't been working for over a month and are running out of (or have already run out of) cash. Things are at the point where folks are ready to go out, get things going and take their chances with the virus. It's to the point for some where the choice is dying on your feet or on your knees.

'Live and Let Die' blasts as Trump visits mask factory

https://youtu.be/KzRhcjOG1es

Randall Roberts
LA TimesMay 5, 2020, 9:36 PM EDT

As President Trump toured an N95 mask manufacturing plant in Phoenix on Tuesday, his visit through the facility was accompanied by a head-scratching musical soundtrack: the Paul McCartney-penned “Live and Let Die,” as performed by Guns 'N Roses.

The president and his entourage were touring a Honeywell factory that produces the masks, worn by medical workers to protect them from breathing in the deadly COVID-19 virus. Standing next to a green bin filled with hundreds of masks, a notably un-face-masked Trump watched an employee work as the music segued from the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" into the song McCartney wrote and recorded for the James Bond film of the same name.

President Trump, not wearing a mask, toured a Honeywell plant that manufactures personal protective equipment Tuesday in Phoenix.
The background music for the tour also included Trump rally stalwarts such as Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A." and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger."

In a tweet, Jimmy Kimmel noted: "I can think of no better metaphor for this presidency than Donald Trump not wearing a face mask to a face mask factory while the song 'Live and Let Die' blares in the background."

The song's climactic blast of music arrived as a Honeywell representative was explaining to the president the ways in which the mask's material protects against particulates. As he was doing so, Rose could be heard yowling, "If this ever-changing world in which we live in / Makes you give in and cry / say live and let die."

Needless to say, it wasn't just Kimmel confounded by the scene.

So far, Rose, an outspoken Trump critic, has yet to comment. But a few years ago he called the president the "gold standard of what can be considered disgraceful." More recently, he tweeted a photo of an anti-Trump baseball cap.

Man Ploughs SUV Through Crowd Of First Responders At "Salute To Nurses" Parade

A Pennsylvania man drove his vehicle through a parade of firefighters and other first responders on Tuesday.

A salute to workers at Mercy Fitzgerald Medical Center in Darby was being held by Delaware County first responders when a man allegedly drove his SUV through the gathering, WPVI-TV reports.

The man also allegedly waved a gun and threatened to hurt those at the tribute, according to investigators.

None of the parade participants in the salute were reported to be injured.

After running a red light, the man led police on a chase through town.

However, the driver lost control after colliding with another automobile and flipped his vehicle onto its side.

The driver was taken into custody by police. The name of the man in custody has not been released.

Either Cheeto or Pence (or both) had better get sick from this shit damned soon, because if not, the MAGAtts are going to be running with one of two explanations:

1) Cheeto & Pence really WERE handpicked by God Almighty Himself to reign over America, and they have Divine Protection.

or

2) This shit was actually created in a government laboratory, and Cheeto & Pence already have been vaccinated against it. Because no mad scientist is going to create something like this in a lab without already knowing how to cure it.... first rule of being a mad scientist is not to kill yourself before finishing your abominable creation, right??

Though the second conclusion would probably cause some of the MAGAtts to rise up against the Orange Imbecile, so at least that would have some entertainment value, if nothing else.

I hope people will start to realize that the reopening of our economy is not due to beating the virus in any way, shape or form... flattening the curve was only to buy time for our medical systems and resources to improve treatment, testing and tracking. That's all. There's no vaccine yet... no standard treatments and no herd immunity.

All it means is there's available room and resources for people in the ICU, if needed.

Yeah but we are going into summer. Viruses don’t do well in the summer months. We actually have a bigger TB problem in the US. Nobody is talking about that. Viruses die off on their own. So yeah you isolate short-term to keep the hospitals from getting flooded but we are going out of the virus season now. The safest place you can be is a nice sunny beach. Heat and UV kill viruses. The fresh outside air is better than being at home. Plus we need exposure to keep our immune systems active. You isolate too long people’s immune systems get weak. You can’t live in a bubble forever.

WATCH: Costco Employee Tison Confronts Customers Over COVID-19 Mask Rule
Caroline Warnock

A video has gone viral on social media showing a Costco employee named Tison telling two customers that they have to follow Costco’s mask-wearing policy. The video has been widely shared on Twitter, with many users tweeting to Costco and telling them that Tison needs a raise.

As of May 4, Costco requires members to “wear a face covering that covers their mouth and nose at all times while at Costco.” The company states that this does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to those who are unable to wear a face mask for medical reasons.

It’s unclear at which Costco location this video was filmed. Heavy has reached out to the company for a statement but did not immediately hear back.

The video can be viewed here:

Kevin and Karen get shopping cart taken away at #Costco || ✌🏼 #wearethepeople #COVID19 #coronavirusuk #COVIDIDIOTS pic.twitter.com/LDeB1hDz9L

— ONLY iN LVNV ➐ (@OnlyInLVNV) May 18, 2020

Tison Tells Customers They Must Wear Masks Due to the Company Policy

The video is filmed by the customer, and it starts with him telling Tison: “I just put you on my 3,000 follower Instragam feed.” At that point, Tison gives a wave and responds, “Hi everyone! I work for Costco and I’m asking this member to put on a mask cause that is our company policy. So you either wear the mask, or—”

The customer cuts in and says, “And I’m not doing it cause I woke up in a free country.”

Tison then takes the cart from the customer and starts pulling it away, prompting the customer to ask if he’s just going to take his cart “full of stuff” away. Tison tells the customer, “Sir, have a great day. You are no longer welcome here in our warehouse. You need to leave.”

As Tison walks away, the customer says, “he’s gonna take the cart away ’cause he’s a pussy little bitch. There he is, walking away with all my stuff.” He continues, “’Cause I’m not a fucking sheep.”
Twitter Users Are Praising Tison For His Actions & Saying He Needs a Raise

Many Twitter users took to the platform to share their thoughts on the situation and Tison’s reaction to the customer. One person posted: “way to go Costco and Tison. thank you for looking out for others !” Another wrote: “This is why I shop at Costco. They care about their employees and customers. Tison should be commended.”

One person said, “Tison for employee of the year 2020.” Another added, “I love this energy. Costco remains the best.” Someone else praised Costco for enforcing their mask policy: “Honestly, if this is how Costco is enforcing, I might need to rejoin. Thanks, Tison!”

Khary Penebaker shared the video and captioned it: “These #COVIDIDIOTS think they’re martyrs & victims, when in reality, they’re just selfish assholes who aren’t used to being told no.” Another user posted, “Tison is a national treasure and must be protected.” Another asked Costco a question: “Hey Costco, how can we thank Tison for standing up to such brutishness while on the job? Are you giving him recognition?”

The people complaining about others not wearing masks are the same people who bring all four kids to the store and let them run around unchecked. If I gotta shop during normal hours with everyone else, the least these people could do is travel light and not clog up the aisles with their brood.

There's a lot of misinformed folks claiming to be exercising their perceived "rights" and freedoms where masking and pandemic orders are concerned... The ignorance is unfortunate... and people tend to take out their angst on the wrong targets.

The Costco shopper was wrong on all angles except one... he did wake up in a free country. But several of his freedoms shifted or became conditional the moment he stepped out his front door.

State and local laws are well within the legal boundaries to require safety equipment and limit public access to any facility. Businesses can lose their licenses and be shut down for noncompliance. Currently, businesses can be held liable for failing to comply with safety measures for both employees and customers.

Businesses can set their own requirements and enforce them on their private property as they see fit. If a consumer wishes to not mask up... they have every right to stay off that private property and find someone willing to comply to do their shopping for them.

I wish more people would understand that hand washing, masks and social distancing are the only available tools to reduce spread of the virus until vaccines and treatments are available. Yes, everyone has a choice... but the least desirable is to be a danger and a pain in the ass to others...
