At least with Trump you get the accidental honesty when he doesn't know to shut his big dumb mouth.

Trump says Republicans would never win election again if it was easier to vote
Donald Trump admitted what many Democrats believe to be true

Donald Trump has admitted that proposed measures to make it easier for Americans to vote - including mail-voting - would make it harder for the Republican party to win an election.

The comments came as the president discussed the coronavirus stimulus bill passed by the House of Representatives, and signed on Friday, providing a $2tn (£1.7tn) stimulus to Americans.

Democrats had attempted to include $4bn worth of measures to safeguard November’s presidential election, with specific provisions for mail and absentee ballots as well as online and same-day voter registration, and expanding early voting by 15 days.

“The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” said Mr Trump during an interview on Fox & Friends.

“They had things in there about election days and what you do and all sorts of clawbacks. They had things that were just totally crazy and had nothing to do with workers that lost their jobs and companies that we have to save.”

There are still ways to rig an "all mail" election, of course. For example, you can play silly games with the envelopes the ballots are mailed back in (https://www.king5.com/article/news/politics/voters-will-have-to-check-democrat-or-republican-on-washington-state-primary-ballot/281-8a16b59e-df4d-4e8e-b66f-ff0fdbadf19c), and then use that as an excuse not to count ballots. Which is what happened in the recent primary here in WA.

But yes, the "turnout" for such elections is greatly improved.... as ballots go out in the mail several weeks before election day, and nobody has to stand in line for hours to vote, or worry that their usual polling place might be suddenly "closed" when they get there, as has been the case in many other states... and that was BEFORE a pandemic created a legitimate excuse to close public buildings.

Truth is, I miss the caucus, though it's probably just as well that we didn't have one this year, given the current circumstances.

Of course, Trump is the one Republican dumb enough to openly admit it without a dog-whistle like "we're not set up as a democracy, but as a republic" rhetoric and the fake voter-ID bullshit to prevent a crime of "voter fraud" that never actually happens, unless of course it is perpetrated by Republicans...
