Well... at least she's not the one that both Uncle Tom Clyburn & Miss Lindsey Graham endorsed. Thank God for that much....

Jackson seems to be a "mixed bag", in the sense that she's worked as both a corporate lawyer and a public defender. She also was a clerk for Breyer, so at least she has some familiarity with the guy she will be replacing. She's related to Paul "Eddie Munster" Ryan through marriage somehow, but since he's no longer in Congress, I'm not sure if that would get her any Republican votes.

She'll be confirmed nonetheless.

The 2 assholes Manchin & Sinema already voted to confirm her as an appeals judge, so they would have a hard time explaining a vote against her now. So even with zero Republican votes & a Scamala Harris tiebreaker, she's probably in.

I love how anyone who is nominated for a SC Justice seat is always accused of being a pervert in some way. It's comical.

Do you really think she has remarkable qualifications..? Other than being a black female..?

I really don't see where the black female element bring anything significant to the position of SCOTUS judge. Forget the left vs right nonsense... There's got to be several better qualified judicial candidates that weren't even considered for the position without the gender or race qualification preference... SMH.

Well maybe but in recent years they have only been chosen from people who are Roman Catholics with weird fringe views on abortion.

Are you saying there are more whack job Christian taliban in the USA than black females?

FORD

Just the fact that she's been a judge of any kind since 2012 automatically makes her more qualified than "Chief Justice" Opie Roberts, who got his first judicial appointment from the Chimp in 2003 (reward for his part in the stolen Florida 2000 election) and then got the ultimate promotion two years later. And she's also miles ahead of Cheeto's appointments, Rapey Brett & Amy Culty Batshit, who not only had very little judicial experience, but also had never tried a case as a lawyer.

It would be like being appointed the Defense Secretary with the "qualification" that you watched some cheesy 80s war movies.

Who knows how rapey he really was but if your dickhead radar wasn't set off by Brett Kavanaugh then you don't have one. :)

Not just him. They all get accused of some kind of nefarious and usually sexual activity. If the Supreme Court is full of perverts then they fit in with the rest of Washington DC. Some say the Washington Monument represents a big hard dick. I guess you could say the dome on the US Capitol looks like a big tit. My question is where’s the other one? They look better in pairs.

The Supreme Court became a joke a long time ago. You could randomly select people off the street and probably get a better court.

The religious angle isn't really in play as much as you've been led to or want to believe. Many view Catholics as the core of Pro-Life, but it's only because they have a global operation that outright, publicly opposes abortion. But almost all of the Christian based faiths oppose abortion and many of the hard-core evangelist sects are far more fanatical about that than Catholics.

My reference to qualifications were more focused in the intellectual and practical application of the law and our Constitution.

White catholics make up just 10% of the US population but are 2/3rds of the Supreme Court.

Coincidence?

Three quarters of the US population are in favor of Roe v Wade, but the religious extremists have managed to take over the court.

Which of course you've never actually applied to any white male or any of Trump's court-packing nominees....

And isn't there something in there about "separation of church and state"?

To an outsider it's just fucking weird.

Abortion is never a nice thing but it's always going to happen either way and also having the fucking government make people have babies they don't want to is just fucking weird.

If you believe in god then he/she/it aborts millions of babies all the fucking time.

So almost every other country has sorted this out years ago, really simples. If the kid can survive without being in the mother then too late to abort otherwise it's up to the mother because it's her agency. Not fucking rocket surgery.

Yes... part of the First Amendment... it reads “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”.

The Constitution doesn't say anything about preventing appointees to the SCOTUS from exercising their freedom of religion as US citizens. What's your point..? Did you have one?

The job is for someone who is an expert in constitutional law and can make unbiased rulings based on constitutional law. Of course it's all become a joke because everyone is trying to load the court so they can tip the political balance. Justice is supposed to be blind. So you should try and find a justice who's rulings aren't going to be influenced by bias.

I must admit that I'm a little bit shocked that Willard Mittens Romney (R - Kolob) would support the nomination of somebody who he was raised to believe was a descendant of an angel too lazy to fight Satan. :headlights:

Ted Cruz Says Confirmation of Qualified Nominee Sets Dangerous Precedent
Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Minutes after Kentanji Brown Jackson was confirmed to the United States Supreme Court, Senator Ted Cruz warned that the confirmation of a qualified nominee set “a dangerous precedent.”

“Make no mistake, Judge Jackson has been confirmed for the flimsiest of reasons—that she is qualified,” Cruz said. “Now that one qualified nominee has been confirmed, we can expect more of the same.”

“Mark my words, Joe Biden and his cabal of Democratic cronies are ready to pack the Court with other qualified nominees,” he added. “The slippery slope started today.”

Recalling confirmation hearings of yesteryear, Cruz waxed nostalgic for an era “before the tyranny of the qualified seized control.”

“There was a time in America when a Supreme Court nominee could be confirmed because he liked beer and cried about calendars,” he said. “Those days, sadly, appear to be over.”

Maybe the Dems have dirt on Mitty. People who claim to be saints are the easiest to blackmail. It could be the good ol Washington two step at work. A guy like Mitt can't get away with things most politicians can. It would destroy his family and social life. He's not Newt Gingrich or Bill Clinton.

Anyways the government has always been crooked but right now it's a total joke. We have Mr. Magoo for president and the rest of it is pro-wrestling with the red team vs the blue team and plenty of dirt talking. So where's the infrastructure? Everyone is out for themselves in this game and the naive public actually think they matter.

Actually, that's the fucking whole point, old man! Losing the plot, sleepy Zah? The justices do not get to "exercise there freedom of religion" as justices (i.e. overturning laws like decades of Roe v. Wade)..

Otherwise you could justify things like slavery or the Holocaust, because it's in their religion...

Better to be sleepy than incoherent...

Three branches dumbass... Legislative (Congress) makes the laws, Executive (President and cabinet) administers the laws, Judicial (SCOTUS and lower courts) interpret the laws based on the Constitution. It's known as the separation of powers... Only 3 parts so your simple mind should be able to comprehend it...

Yup. Supreme Court Justices are supposed to weigh every case against the US Constitution and nothing else. Justice is supposed to be blind. There really should be only two concerns about a nominee. Do they have the experience to be a decent Justice? Second, will they be unbiased in their rulings?

The politicians and public want to load the court with people who will rule to favor one side or another. It's disgraceful. It makes the whole nomination process a big joke every time we go through it.
