Just found this on Reddit. It's titled "Polaroid of Prom Night at John Muir High in Pasadena, CA 1971. Eddie & David Lee on a double-date."

The guy in the white suit could very well be Dave. But of course anybody who knows the history of VH knows that Dave didn't go to the same high school that Eddie & Alex did, so it's doubtful that they would be double dating at the prom. And none of those other three guys look like Eddie to me

So.... I'm thinking Snopes would rule this one "partially true".

Dave did go to John Muir High School. Who else would wear sunglasses at night to the prom but Dave? The Van Halen’s went to Pasadena High School and lived over on Las Lunas. I don’t know if Dave lived in the old Wrigley mansion yet. I think his dad bought that after the divorce. Dave moved in with his dad after his mom kicked him out of her house.

I always heard Dr. Roth was a great guy but Dave’s mom was not very nice. After she booted Dave out she moved another teenage boy in. Dave told that story and said I will let the listeners try and figure that psychology out. I know Michael Anthony said Dave had some dysfunction in his family and that probably made him standoffish and not very trusting. He said you never were allowed to really know Dave, he put a barrier around himself.
