I saw the show in Albany. Let me tell you, the lights, staging etc, were shit. The only cost I saw were the 3 video screens: one for each person who actually PAID to get in.

You would be surpirsed how much it costs to rent the venue, cart the gear, the crew....all of tha tis VERY expensive. Historically tours cost so much that they don't generate much profit. And that's pathetic. In 1995, I saw them at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto for the PPV filming. They sold out two nights!! Look at them now, my favorite enemy. Those aren't good ticket sales...for Van Halen, that's goddamn poor.

Do you really think you'd need to justify this and list pathetic statistics (that actually make the "Rothtards" right) if this tour were successful? If the tour were successful, the band would be hyped everywhere and you wouldn't be able to get a ticket to the Van Halen show at the bottom of your Cracker Jacks box. And also remember, those attendance figures INCLUDE the seats given away from radio stations and other promotions, and they don't take into account the number of tickets in higher-priced seats that received discounts or had bloody food vouchers added.

Now, that was all assuming that people take you seriously. But we don't. And you know why? Well, simple: you've been called out as a thief. You didn't even have the decency to respond to the charges. I for one would pay $500 a ticket to see that (assuming they rehearsed and put on a good show....also I wouldn't expect $500 to be regular tix price more like the all access.) This tour offers the fans nothing. They aren't well rehearsed, the production isn't good, no new album. This tour would be hard to justify at $25 a ticket let alone $90-$500.

Then I said fuck it, and retuned it. I havent had a cd burner in over 6 weeks. Combione that with the reality that I dont think about a cdr trade everydday when its out of my hands for the time being. I just bought a cd burner and best buy is coming on weds to install it. Id have it put in this weekend byut a freind just passed away and im going to Des Moines for a funeral.

In terms of ticket sales, wouldn't say the tour is quite the disaster some predicted it would be before it got underway. I've got no use for Van Hagar, but never thought they would flop.

That being said, Ed and Co aren't exactly packing these arenas to the rafters. Not by a long shot.

I have said it before and will say it again. Grossing 20 million is neither good or bad. If the tour cost 1million it is good, if it costs 40 million, it is really fucking bad. They are being paid a set amount that was initially agreed upon under the assumption that they would be selling out or close to it. They have been playing to half full stadiums at best with free tickets, tickets are reduced prices, reduced tickets with free parking and food. VH will make money because it is guaranteed. The tour will lose money at an alarming rate. Tours that are successful don't have to give away tickets, sell $90 tickets for $20 minues parking and food. Get a clue.

Well, about a week and a half ago, they announced playing here in Portland come October...in the time since, on the classic rock and 80s channels I listen to on the radio, they've given away (no shit here) 25-30 tickets...AND that's just the giveaways that I've heard about while listening to the radio.

Now, they're also setting up the food bank, meaning that if you come in with a can of beans or a bag of top raman, you're getting your ticket for like $20. I believe they've been doing that pretty frequently with this tour, so saying that they're charging $70 a pop really isn't an accurate statement if somebody brings in food and gets $50 knocked off of their ticket price, right?

I believe, currently, as of so far, VH is averaging about 7500 people a night, all things taken into consideration. Which, honestly, isn't too bad.

But -

THIS IS A FUCKIN' REUNION TOUR!!!

For ANY band with Van Halen's tenure and status in the public eye, a reunion tour should be doing THREE TIMES better than what it's doing, PERIOD. There's no escaping that fact. Van Halen's comeback tour is a flop because of that, and because of Vh's guaranteed salary the promoters are losing their asses on it.

Not to fear! As soon as this tour is over and VH and Clearchannel have gained as much as they can gain, Hagar's gone, you can trust me on that. If the powers that be don't want him gone, that you can bet your ass that Ed'll fire him again.

After that, the only place Van Halen has left to go is a final album/tour with Dave...or the Grave!
