are you Matt's spokeshole now? wtf's with the "you don't get to.." fuck that. You're starting to sound like the yard-duty teacher I bit the ear off in second grade for telling me I don't get to dunk kids' faces in the water fountain, and it's starting to annoy me.

The reason I eyeball the pickups, is my 76 Paul that got stolen had issues like this.

When I got it home and pulled the standard-sized humbucker, I saw the hole was hogged out with a chisel to make room for the new pickup. So it wasn't quite right, it looked cockeyed like this.

Not that I feel the need to explain anything of it to you, since it's Matt's axe I'll let him respond.

Good eye....I was given this guitar by an older cousin back around 1988...he bought it at a pawn shop in the metro Detroit area around the same time...I noticed the "off set" pickups right off the bat...also has a push/pull in the volume knob....paint job is that slightly darker sunburst...head stock has been repainted...the back of the guitar has some large cracks in the paint & exposed bare wood...still plays like a dream though

Look at the cutaway horn - does that look like a Tele?

No. It's strange, different. They could have moved the Fhole or done something modern since this is a modern interpretation.

Ever since Fender lost that trademark copywrite suit, it seems they have been trying to reprofile their guitars to give other builders no leeway on the profile.

As if to say "let's copywrite every permutation of Strat or Tele copy that's been out there then threaten everyone with lawyerball" on it.

This will backfire on them eventually, because when you buy a Telecaster you expect to see the traditional profile. Not this shallow cutaway, I'm not fond of it but there must be a reason for it's existence.

It is a little different, but I might actually like it better. Not a huge Tele fan really, but for some reason the thinlines are kinda cool(er), IMO.

And it is stated in the product blurb as an "interpretation" "Originally conceived as a model that could’ve been made during the halcyon days of the early ’50s (we didn’t begin building thinline guitars until 1968)"...

Sorry to hear that. It looks cool! Think it was a deliberate bait-and-switch, or they just fucked up and sent you the regular relic accidentally?

I'm assuming you're sending it back so you can get the MBS you originally wanted, so imagining you'll ignore GAyR's "check out this one that's not even a Fender or the color you ordered originally" post....

However, as for small relic builders - never heard of Jaxs, but Rittenhouse is getting a LOT of attention lately...and they just started offering relic'ed Strat and Tele bodies separately (for around $350), so I'm interested...

Because he is in Japan, which is a slave-state servitude of the United States, which means he bows down to anything labeled Master.

It is in their national legal code.

Therefore, because the guitar is not of the Master-Built he will return it. But not before he rubs his panty in the case and on the fretboard as biological punishment to the seller.

I don't belong in here because I am no guitarist, but I like to tinker and getting a jam on every day is the only way to live.

Recently grabbed a crybaby pedal, extra monster cable, and an =EVH= phase 90 pedal to fook around with. Think I'll be jumping into the electric guitar world a bit more this year by picking up one of my own.

Sometimes there is no beaver in my face and a sexy woman on a magazine unleashes my chain belt in Kung Tongue Fu in public. Life is he'll when you

Carlos Robelli guitars are actually extremely nice guitars. We have classical guitars made by them at my school and they're some of the nicest ones I've played on, and that speaks for a lot. I've played on many guitars. My cousin owns a Carlo Robelli SG copy from the late 70's or early 80's. Got a few good blemishes but it's in good condition! He was gonna sell it to me for $100...

My guitar playing suffers because I haven't a technical clue how to play guitar, but making noise is fun after a session with Cheech & Chong much like I am about to do. Going to send Thrills some mula by morning and buy one of his. There's no rule against having two or three to journey with, so what chu got Gar?

Maybe the next time I drink a few I'll grab a camera and a guitar. Should be good for a few laughs and maybe an ~Awwww Yeah~

The "lead brick" won't cost that much to ship slow-boat, and the brass ones are inexpensive to begin with - give 'em a try!

I've never been a fan of the Tone Zone...lots of people swear by them, but all my friends and I hate them...lol
You might want to consider a Duncan Custom Custom instead...?

Fuck I missed this post and ordered one already based purely on shit I've read on the interweb and the fact I used to buy Dimarzios years ago when I used to know more about things like this.

Oh well if I hate it too I'll stick in in one of my shitty spare guitars or try it in the neck position.

Hey some people (including Paul Glibert, IIRC) swear by them, so please don't let my opinion dissuade you! In my friend's guitar it sounded dull, unfocused and muddy; but this was an alder bolt-on with a rosewood fretboard, maybe not the best wood types for it. YMMV.

Seshmeister
05-16-2010, 09:11 PM
Hah muddy is exactly what I didn't want. :)

I liked the idea that it was advertised as being high output but not buzzy or fuzzy with a lot of middle. I'm going to be using a POD thing DI'd into the desk for this gig so that seemed like a good thing. I'm not hugely reassured by Paul Gilbert swearing by them as I think people like him and Vai and so on tend to sacrifice rhythm tone for lead and unless you a doing their widdle music then most people spend 95% of their time playing rhythm so to me that should be the priority.

There is a pickup picker tool on the DiMarzio site which actually recommended it too.

http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickuppicker/

I'll maybe record my tone once it's in later in the week and see what the view is.

This is Garfuckle, sitting on a bench near the overpass he lives under. The photographer paid him 50 cents to pose with a guitar he brought along on his project (taking photos of homeless retards with a guitar). Garfuckle tried unsuccessfully to get the photog to pay for a hotel room, so Gar could blow him, but the photog was so put off by the stench he paid him another 50 cents just to go away:

 OOOf....that looks painful, bro! Not a whole lot you can do with that...gotta let the blisters heal. I've had blisters from week-long cover gigs, and had to pop them to keep playing, but it HURTS like holy hell (and some have recommended against that, but not much else you can do when you've got a set to finish). But that's a burn, that's way worse as far as blisters go - try some Aloe. Ya probably wanna baby them for a few days, maybe not play if you don't have to. That sucks, sorry.

any time Cato breaks his piggy bank and goes to the pawn shop it's a party.

Certainly you could put something interesting in the effects option in the guitar.

Someone posted one a couple weeks ago where when the guitarist hit the toggle up position it sounded like an ascending 5th fret G string G harmonic. It seemed like a real left field kind of option to hit that in the middle of a flurry of notes. We may have luck if we work backwards from the year of the above issue, which was '78

The seventies was indeed a bizarre time. I remember an article in Circus magazine from the mid seventies about all of these guys that were putting homemade gizmos in/on their guitars. There was a Japanese guitarist featured in one of the photos, who had this striking-looking crescent shaped guitar with a built in air compressor, allowing him unlimited sustain. Hell, even Kramer experimented for a while there with guitar necks made out of aluminum (http://www.kramerforum.com/george/kollection/), for cryin' out loud.

Didn't think the Ebow was even in existence when Heroes was made...but then I read the first one was made in 1969...I'd always heard Robert Fripp was one of the first users of them, and he played on the Bowie Heroes sessions, so it's possible...

Fripp had all sorts of strange effects he'd developed over the years, which first came about when he was collaborating with Brian Eno. He referred to them as "Frippertronics", and made several albums with the devices, which were based on the use of reel to reel tape recorders. The results were either fascinating or repetitive doodling, depending on your tolerance for such things. You'll hear echos of "Heroes" in this piece (indicative of the three albums Fripp made with Bowie during the latter's Berlin period). For me, a little bit of this stuff goes a looong way, and spread over an entire album becomes tedious after more than 3 or 4 minutes.

In addition, King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp generated an unusual sustained sound by allowing his guitar to feed back and sitting at different positions in the room to alter the pitch of the feedback.
