Van Halen and 1984 both sold ten million and were both certified diamond but Van Halen sold more.

And when I say Van Halen I mean their first album.

VH and 1984 are the best DLR era Van Halen albums.

I could see how VH 1 and 1984 sold 10 million. Many music fans who are not necessarily VH fans, have those two essentials in their collections. I can also see pop fans buying 1984 because of Jump. I also realize many people bought duplicates when they came out on CD. But what I don't understand is how FW was one of their least selling albums. Say for arguments sake, only half or 5 million copies went to VH fans. You would think that FW would have sold more. I haven't checked the official numbers, but from what I remember FW was the slowest selling DLR era release. I think everyone one should own the first six VH intheir collections. Any other speculation as to why the low numbers for FW?

Hey Antman,

first of all FW didn't sell as well as their other albums (3.4 US still isn't bad alone), because it wasn't as "mainstream", "commercial" or as poppish as say DD or 1984 were. Also, keep in mind that alot of music critics/magazines (they can burn in hell for all I care) were saying that FW was most likely their worst recording (alot of dumbasses would naturally buy into that proclamation). Obviously FW is their best sounding album (longer guitar solos, deeper bass and drums, killer lyrics and vocals /w Diamond Dave reaching an all-time high)...Personally I don't think he ever reached that height of invincibility even on his best day...EEAS is still worthy of praise as a solo effort though

over and out

Me, too! It's the cd of the VH6 that I play the most. '1984' runs a close second. 'Diver Down' is used as a coaster for my drinks.
