The original HALLOWEEN. It relied on atmosphere and tension rather than gore.
I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...

The first Evil Dead really nailed it for me.

Mezro...I really like the ending of Audition too; people walked out of the theater during that...

Am I the only one that doesn't really get scared at scary movies? My cousin who lives upstate got piss ass scared after watching the Blair Witch. Maybe it's cuz he lives in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods. I never understood that.

Now you guys are talking my favorite genre in films.
As for scariest cult classic I'd have to agree with Sarge........TCM is a classic, mainstream it would have to be The Exorcist, but if any of you enjoy real horror the Italian movies rule.. Anything by Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci are real fuck ups.
Most Cannabalistic I'd say Cannibal Ferox(solid outing/ another Italian Flick)
Slashers well I'd have to say "ICHI The Killer" is phenomenal.
Also look into any of the Japanese thrillers if you can find them. If you want any good titles for Horror movies go to "DVD DRIVEin.com, Thedarkside.com, or RueMorgue.com and enjoy!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you big time moose. Most Takashi Miike films are amazing.

Mezro...Japanese horror rules in a major way...

                            The Entity (1982)

It is enough to deal with things you can see, but this one is based on an Entity which is invisable.

So it really had a mental inpact. How in the hell do you hid if you can't see what you are hiding from?
