    Neither.

Rivera's season wasn't close to as good as Gagne's the year he won it, and that kind of year is the only type of exception that can be made for a closer getting it. Closers don't deserve the award IMO. Gagne's year was so ridiculous though, how could you not give it to him.

Colon is an Angel, so who cares.

Rivera IMO. Awesome stats. Best closer in baseball history IMO.

Brett which year did Gagne win it?

Year before last, so 2003. Dude look at his stats, 55 for 55 in save opportunities (part of the 84 in a row streak that may never be broken).

        Gagne in 2003:

        82.3 IP, 39 H, 137 K, 20 BB, 1.20 ERA, 55 saves.

The Cy Young is for a season, not a career. Look at Rivera's numbers this year, compared to that. They're not even close. And I just don't think closers deserve it, unless you put up super-human numbers that can't be ignored like Gagne did.

Neither, look at Santana, he doesen't have the wins but still has the strikeouts and ERA to take it.

            Those are VERY impressive numbers.

                Okay...Brett...I hear you...

                but...without Rivera...the Yanks aren't in the playoffs...

and I don't care what anyone says, it's not just numbers...

                Rivera's numbers this year...

                2005 NYY W7, L4, S43, 78.1IP, 50H, 18R, 18 W, 80K 1.38ERA, .177 BAA

I know a bunch of people blather on about ARod and the Yankee offense, but Rivera is the one guy in that rotation that kept them in games...

Gagne's season was unbelievable, and there really isn't a starter that stands out...

                  Colon:

                  33GS 21W, 8L, 2CG, 222.2IP, 215H, 26HR, 43BB, 157K, 3.48ERA, .254 BAA

                  Santana:

                  33GS 16W, 7L, 3CG, 2SO, 231.2IP, 180H, 22HR, 45BB, 238K, 2.87 ERA, .210 BAA

Santana's numbers are impressive...but impressive enough to overtake Colon...who had 5 more wins, and who's team is in the playoffs?

                  it's close...but I'd go Colon...

I'll go with Geraldo Rivera before I go with Bartolo Colon-cleansing... lol

Rivera gets the lifetime award, but this year? Of course, I don't follow baseball enough, so who am I kidding... I can' t knowledgeably comment on this... but in general, as a rule, I don't like closers getting Cy Youngs, and neither would Cy if you asked him...

... christ, next thing you know, they'll be giving KICKERS in the NFL the MVP.. .because without whatshisface, and the pulled hammy, the Eagles would have lost at Arrowhead, and somehow that was the game that got them into championship mode and on the road to the Super Bowl.... lmao

It took alot of bats and motherfuckers RBI-ing to get the Yankees into the playoffs... and hell.. .in the old days there was no such thing as relief and closers.... shit.... don't get me started... motherfucking closers winning Cy Youngs, and interleague play, and the California Angels always changing their name, and the fuckin' Padres getting rid of the dung and mustard uniforms I grew as a kid to love in san diego... and Jack Murphy is still rolling over in his grave after Qualcomm slapped their horrible name on the stadium... oh fuck!!!!!!!

Why did I have to read this goddam thread!!!!!

Baseball is a shambles.... yeah big fucking deal so what the playoffs are exciting... what's fucking exciting about having a WILD CARD win the world series three years in a row.... GODDAM!!!! in the old days the Padres wouldn't even sniff the series and the fucking curse of the Bambino would still be in FULL FORCE!!!!! Let's go old school, pre-69 and make EVERY GAME FOR EVERY TEAM matter... the two best teams standing play for all the marbles... (1 game playoff for tie).....

So I'm a purist or just an old bastard living in the past (hey, I'm only 36)... but still..... some of this shit not to mention STEROIDS pisses me off if I think about it too much... and fuck the AL... douchebags... goddam DH... makes me sick.... lmao

In other news... my medicine is kicking in.... lol

                        GO IRISH!!
                        GO PADRES!!!
