Rivera's season wasn't close to as good as Gagne's the year he won it, and that kind of year is the only type of exception that can be made for a closer getting it. Closers don't deserve the award IMO. Gagne's year was so ridiculous though, how could you not give it to him.
Colon is an Angel, so who cares. -
Rivera IMO. Awesome stats. Best closer in baseball history IMO.

Year before last, so 2003. Dude look at his stats, 55 for 55 in save opportunities (part of the 84 in a row streak that may never be broken).
Gagne in 2003:
82.3 IP, 39 H, 137 K, 20 BB, 1.20 ERA, 55 saves.
The Cy Young is for a season, not a career. Look at Rivera's numbers this year, compared to that. They're not even close. And I just don't think closers deserve it, unless you put up super-human numbers that can't be ignored like Gagne did.Comment
