So after all these recent rehearsals, is EVH finally good enough for DAVE ?

With all this Van Hagar shit Ed's been doing lately, I wonder if he has
got enough hours under his belt again to be up to Dave's standards ?
I hear he is playing bits and pieces of Eruption and Cathedral...

Or is the fucker still under-done ??

Having seen multiple shows and soundchecks on this tour, and as a guitarist of 29 years (i'm 34..started young! lol), i can tell you that Ed is up to snuff. He ripped out I'm The One a few times at soundcheck like a mofo! Hot For Teacher was also revisited....awesome! He's been teasing Drop Dead Legs, too....that and his "ice cream man solo" wide-stretch scale runs are in super shape. Ed's still got it. His live solo is so free and un-cliche'....which to me is great. His "i'll just play whatever" 'tude in his solo spot is fresh...and yes, he does mix in the classic flash....but it's not a bad thing to just improv a little. I remember boots of his solo from the Fair Warning Tour when Cathedral wasnt even a finished-recorded idea, and he was messin' with it then. It was cool, but nowhere near the final, recorded product. But..it was cool. Like when they jammed what would become Girl Gone Bad at the US Fest......not complete, but so cool to hear a work in progress. That's what his live solo is like on this tour. And, at one rehearsal he and Al & Mike jammed a tune for a little bit that wasnt a finished VH tune...but it did rock! Well, didnt mean to go on for so long....figured i'd just share a bit...peace.

Well...maybe you have to look back to find yourself again? Ed never lost it...hell, the lll tour showed he was up for playing old material. He's just Ed...goofy as hell, yes....but still Ed...the King.

I heard the show from Greensboro, opening night I think, and Eddie sounded really rough. I heard the show from 7-11-04 and he sounded alot better. He pulled off the licks he wasn't pulling off the first night.

I'm speculatin that Ed's been practicing a lot more lately... why, I'm not sure. Could be the heat from Wolfie sounding so good, or the flack he had received from the first part of the tour for sounding lackluster. If he's back in shape, and his tone is killin', well, IT'S ABOUT TIME, if not then he better get it together RIGHT NOW!!!

I started guitar 10/74, and Paul DOES rock! I had to play "Scarified" in 1988, and I thought I was gonna die learning it... HEY, wait a second... ARE WE AGREEING ON SOMETHING?!??!! haha
