Not sure about that one, but it's a possibility. I have heard one theory that stated that JFK Jr was planning to announce his candidacy for the New York Senate on the Monday which ended up being 2 days after the crash. In other words, he was following a similar path to his father and uncle Bobby , both of whom started out as Senators, before JFK sr became President, and Bobby the likely nominee in the 68 election before he was murdered

I'm not neccessarily endorsing this one just yet, but if the political ambitions did turn out to be true, then it wouldn't surprise me. The BCE seems to be determined to do whatever they deem neccessary to prevent a Kennedy from ever becoming President again. Probably why Teddy didn't go for it in 84.
