    Mariners: Soriano needs Tommy John surgery

    Injured Mariners pitcher Rafael Soriano has a torn ligament in his pitching elbow and will require Tommy John surgery, according to the Associated Press. The reliever has been on the disabled list since May 10 with elbow problems.

    The Mariners have now lost their closer of the present (Eddie Guardado) to torn rotator cuff surgery and their closer of the future (Soriano) to Tommy John surgery. The nightmare season in Seattle continues.
