Sites: Dating the White Way

Aug. 9 issue - It's hard for white separatists to get a date. And not just for the reasons that you think. Part of the problem is that there are no whites-only dating services, says William Regnery, publisher of The Occidental Quarterly, a magazine that espouses white nationalism and whose statement of principles calls for limiting immigration to "selected people of European ancestry."

Regnery's now preparing to enter the market—he recently announced the idea of a racially exclusive dating Web site in a letter to subscribers. He says he's worried about the declining percentage of whites in the population and hopes a dating site would increase the number of white families, "since the survival of our race depends upon our people marrying, reproducing and parenting." Such fears tap into the "common paranoid fantasy" of white separatists, says Mark Potok of the watchdog Southern Poverty Law Center. But Regnery defends the whites-only matchmaking idea, insisting that it is no different from sites run for Jewish singles. "I'm sure you're familiar with JDate," he says, naming one Jewish-dating site. "It's huge, and there are a variety of other ones for ethnic, religious [and] special-interest groups." For now, Regnery's project has no domain name and no start date. "This is still a gleam in the eye of the beholder," he says.

William Regnery II, an heir to the Regnery publishing fortune who's a prime mover and shaker in white nationalism publishing, is moving into a new line of business: match-making for "heterosexual whites of Christian cultural heritage."

In an appeal to potential investors titled "Population is Destiny," the famously reclusive Regnery wrote this March that the Caucasian dating service would be no ordinary money-making opportunity, but a chance to ensure "the survival of our race," which "depends upon our people marrying, reproducing and parenting."

Regnery, who says he's long been concerned with a "tendency to bachelorhood" among white men, told the potential investors that his latest effort to save the white race would not stop with match-making.

The dating service, he says, will be only the "first arrow in a business quiver" providing "services and products to whites."

Promoting white nationalism is nothing new for Regnery — or his family. His grandfather, William I, signed incorporation papers for the America First Committee, an organization that opposed fighting Nazi Germany in World War II. His father, Henry, created Regnery Publishing, one of the major purveyors of books by right-wing attack dogs like Anne Coulter and G. Gordon Liddy.

William II has made his mark as a major fundraiser in radical right circles as the founder of the Charles Martel Society in 2001. The society publishes The Occidental Quarterly, an academic-looking journal filled with articles by white-supremacist luminaries such as Sam Francis, editor for the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens and Wayne Lutton of the hate group The Social Contract Press.

The society is putting together conferences, summer schools and a speaker's bureau — all designed to push Regnery's view that the white race is veering toward extinction.

Racists Behind The Swift Boat Book?

So, we know that the co-author of the Swift Boat book (and not "just" an editor) has a documented online history of spewing disgusting, hateful rhetoric. Corsi's claims that this stuff was all in jest just don't add up, unless people are prone to be bigots -- for laughs.

A book of this much notoriety would seem to have no problem attracting a top-shelf publisher, it would seem to be a slam dunk for a publisher like Knopf, W.W. Norton or even the Murdoch-owned HarperCollins to add to their stable. But Unfit for Command happens to be a production of Regnery Publishing - who describes itself as "the leading conservative publisher in America". Regnery has a history of smearing Democrats, from Ann Coulter's debunked screeds against President Clinton to Gary Aldrich's fictitious account of White House debauchery to Speaker Dennis Hastert's new book, Regnery has never seen an anti-left hit piece it didn't like publishing, no matter how dubious the sources are.

So is it a coincidence that Corsi's hate speech, O'Neil's smears of Kerry's service, and Regnery's agenda of anti-liberalism all happened upon each other? Attack speech loves company, but there may be more to this than meets the eye. Consider this information about the family behind Regenery, uncovered by the Southern Poverty Law Center's "Hatewatch" site (the SPLC is famous for Morris Dee's legal fights against the KKK, and ongoing monitoring of hate groups)

I don't think it is that simple OD. The guy could be a complete fuckin racist, cross burnin asshole for all I know, but how does that change any of the material facts presented in the book, that Kerry could easily refute by, say, revealing his military records?

Military records? They don't keep running narratives of every day of each soldier's time on the front like it's an episode of the Real World.

All of these people should have been much more worried about getting shot by fucking gooks than worrying about what one of their comrades was doing and who he was shooting at.

I mean, it's preposterous to think that anyone could have a clear memory of events that happened in the middle of jungle warfare 30 years ago. Preposterous. Maybe special events like the time you rape your first village girl, but not what one man was doing and who he was shooting at. during an intense fire fight. Again, preposterous. That is the best word.

Now... if you people still take every word of this bullshit book for fact, remember it went through the hands of an avowed racist. One who obviously is invested in the Bush agenda. I mean, do you trust people like this? Because I don't no matter whose side they're on. Then again, I am a rationale, intelligent human being opposed to Bush.

To reply to your specific question, below are two scenarios, which one is more believable:

1.
The Swift Boat Veterans Against Kerry were holding their annual grabbag gift swap last Christmas and were brainstorming "hmm, how can we screw over old Kerry... let's put together a book of our memories in the field, add some fresh commmentary, and then we'll shop it around and see if it can get published. Who knows, maybe we'll make a buck or two."

And this Jerky says "yeah, I can make some bucks on this one. It might be contraversial and completely untrue, but what the heck, I'll publish it"

2.
Bush supporters with vast sums of money and influence were trying to find a way to even the military record score with Kerry. The hawks especially HATE that their man has no credibility in the area, and quite frankly, they had to go back and alter source documents to keep the full and devastating facts of Bush's service from being made public.

So... they're scheming to find a way to knock Kerry down a notch. So they figure "Let's got through the records and see who served with Kerry that we can persuade to slander him. It shouldn't be hard since he pissed off so many of them in the 70s with Senate hearing and the like."

"Who knows, we may not have to bribe or blackmail them. Maybe these guys will be happy just seeing their name in print. Also, we got this publisher with tons of money and no credibility who hates Kerry cause he wants to throw the blacks a couple more bones. He'll publish it!"

Now seriously, which is more logical? Think about how people act and how the world works and where the money goes.
