Offensively?

Miguel Tejada and Adrian Beltre...

these guys can't be stopped...

unreal what they are doing right now...

okay...top 3...

Jimmy Edmonds...

if he DOESN'T finish above Pujols and Rolen...it's a travesty...

the guy daily wins games with the bat and the glove...

it should be his year...

I still think Bonds is going to win the MVP. His OPS is like 1.400.

It's hard to argue with a .600 OBP, .800 SLG and he's still got 36 HR in at least 100 less at bats than any of those other guys.

Oh, and I don't like the guy.

Well, Bonds certainly is incredible as a ballplayer, like him or not.

He deserves the MVP. To be honest, how do you vote for anyone for St. Louis, knowing that there are so many players on that team that are vital to their success...

Bonds continues to be one of the best...if not THE best.

That being said...I still think the three guys I mentioned are the hottest players in the league right now...and Tejada certainly is at, or near the top of the list in the AL right now...

No Jody Gerut reference in here?!

Albert Pujols and A-Rod (Even though for his standards he is not having a great year)

Lou

I'd have to say Bonds and Pujols.

Here's the most impressive stat about Bonds in my opinion--through Thursday he had 26 strikeouts.

26 strikeouts for a POWER HITTER.

Incredible. Leadoff hitters don't even do that well.

Yeah, Beltre only went 5 for 5 today, with dinger #42....

You all are missing my point here...

I'm saying RIGHT NOW...I'm not saying the best players in baseball for the year...or decade...or anything like that...the guys I mentioned are just plain insane...

Now overall...I'd probably agree with ARod, Pujols and Bonds...1,2,3...you pick the order...

although this year...ARod isn't there...

I didn't miss your point...I understood it and agree with it. I just didn't post a response...

No...I wasn't talking about you bro...lmfao...

and don't rip on Gerut...you need guys like him on your team to be good...

Yeah, I know that...lol I just felt like cleansing my soul...

By the way, that wasn't a rip on Gerut...I LIKE him...think he's just having an off-year...I just figured it was a good guy to bring up to get under your skin due to his struggles. lol

Now, having said THAT...I hereby proclaim no more references to Indian players allowed in this thread...

I'm watching the Indians/Chisox game right now, Pojo...

P.S. Hafner might have a shot to be Thome's VP...

POJO_Risin
08-29-2004, 12:23 AM
Hafner's no Thome...but he could be...

I just don't see the ultimate power production that Thome has...

Hafner's more Casey or Joyner than Thome...which is fine...

they'll get their power from 2nd, SS and 3B in their future...with Peralta, Phillips and Blake...or Boone...and from their OF and C...

Thome can rot...;)

I would like to see him end his career in Cleveland though...

On a sidenote...

I don't have a lot of respect in general for Indian fans...
they are the biggest goddamned fence riders I've ever seen...

for years I went to games in that monolith of a stadium...watching as 10,000...or less of my closest friends watched them get beat daily...

I once went on a 21 game losing streak in 21 straight games...

and I literally burned all of my Indian stuff...and purchased new...to break the curse (it worked)....

but the fans did me proud the other night...

the Yanks were in town...and it was a near sell out...and raucus I'm sure...

but Lofton got his 2,000th hit at the Jake...

and the fans actually paid attention...and gave him a standing O...

lots of good times for Lofton at the Jake...so I commend them on the props...

Wow...that was a lot of stuff you just spit out!

Hafner and Thome pretty much look like they could have come from the same farm somewhere...I agree on the power comparison, though. Hafner sometimes looks really stiff in the upper body when swinging...

I would, of course, prefer to see Thome end his career right where he is at the moment...

In addition to burning all your Tribe stuff (which, as it turned out, was a good move apparently), you should have burnt down the Mistake on the Lake...

Sidenote of my own: I had to suffer through watching a bit of the Yanks today while waiting for the Phils to come on and the smallest crowd they have played in front of on the road this year is 24,000...

Question for Pojo: Do you remember Earl Snyder?

POJO_Risin
08-29-2004, 01:18 AM
Are you speaking of the Earl Snyder that the Indians got from the Mets in the Alomar deal?

Last I knew...he played for the Red Sox...

POJO_Risin
08-29-2004, 01:21 AM
Ahhh...the Stadium...bro...say what you want about it...

but when you grow up with a stadium...it becomes a part of you...

I Loved that old place...and miss it...

The Jake is the shit...but jesus...

Municipal was fantastic...just not a place for everyone...;)

especially with those fucking eight foot square support beams..lmfao...

TLR
08-29-2004, 01:24 AM
Yep, that's the Snyder I was referring to...

I'll follow this up with you...

TLR
08-29-2004, 01:27 AM
All I can think of when that stadium comes up in conversation is any one of a million scenes from "Major League." Especially the one where the Japanese (?) groundskeeper says, "They're STILL shitty..." lmao

The only thing The Vet had over Municipal was the lack of those support beams you so lovingly referenced...oh, the beautiful cookie cutter...

POJO_Risin
08-29-2004, 01:53 AM
Most of those outdoor scenes were actually of Muni...

Most of the indoor were of Milwaukee's Stadium at the time...

what the hell was it...

Fulton County Stadium? They used Milwaukee for 1...

and perhaps Commiskey for 2...or maybe Milwaukee again...I can't remember...

TLR

No kidding? I thought (mindlessly) that it was probably all shot at Municipal. I should have considered Milwaukee, what with Uecker playing a prominent role in the film...

Here's two more for you to chuckle at:

"He's dead..." "Well, cross him off, THEN..."

"Hey, Lou...wanted to talk to you about managing the Indians..." "Ahhh...I don't know...I'll have to get back to you. I've got a guy on the other line about a set of whitewalls..."

Those quotes aren't exact, I'm sure...close, though. LMAO

POJO_Risin
08-29-2004, 02:31 AM
Real damn close...

Here's one from Uecker..."Ball four..Ball eight...Ball twelve and Vaughn has walked the bases loaded."

or...

"To High...what do you mean it's to fuckin' high..."

or this...

"You might run like Mays, but you hit like shit."

TLR
08-29-2004, 02:35 AM
LMAO...I might have to watch it tonight!!!

"Well, let's give 'em all a big ole' shitburger to eat."

"Hats for bats."

"Where'd you play?" "California Penal." "How do you get there?" "Steal a car."

I LOVE the Ball 4, 8, 12 part...I laugh till I get tears in my eyes and I've seen it a million times...

I was in that movie....

When Charlie Sheen comes out of the bullpen at the end of the movie, me and my severely drunken buddies are in the upper deck in left field....

One of my buddies mooned the camera.... :D

They taped it at Camden Yaaads....

That's pretty cool! Did they have the place open just for the filming or was it done before/after an O's game?

Va Beach VH Fan
08-29-2004, 03:45 PM
No, it was filmed between innings of an O's game...

May have been the White Sox in town, like I said, a lot of beer was drunk that night...

TLR
08-29-2004, 03:50 PM
Hmmm, that's pretty interesting that they did that between innings of a game. Must have been a well choreographed undertaking.

Hey, nothing like being drunk for your first major movie appearance...

Bonds already has another couple of homers tonight...absolutely incredible.

When was the last time a guy at 40 years old was flat-out dominating his sport? Really anyone who doesn't think he's the best right now, even at age 40, is crazy.

Could you imagine if they actually pitched to him? That's the only thing slowing him down from breaking Aaron's record (which he will do before he retires).

TLR
08-29-2004, 09:57 PM
Maybe we'll just get lucky and he'll choose to retire after tonight's game...

Bonds stat-line this year...

G 117
AB 304
R 104
H 112
2B 22
3B 1
HR 38
RBI 88
BB 183
SO 28
SB 6
CS 1
BA .368
OBP .607
SLG .822
OPS 1.430

In 308 at bats, he has 38 homers. That is amazing.

The .607 OBP is probably the best stat out of them all.

Lou

Nah I stil think 28 K's in nearly 500 plate appearances, for a power hitter, is the most unbelieveable stat.

Hey, nothing like being drunk for your first major movie appearance...

Well, they gave us a heads up about an inning before it happened...

They pretty much told us that when Charlie comes out of the dugout to go nuts...

LMFAO, we didn't need to hear that....

We had a big bucket of popcorn, that ended up being thrown amongst our entire section...

And the aforementioned mooning of course....
