He has a point, there was lots of samey heavy metal even in those days.

I have every one of those albums, and frankly I never noticed. I guess there are only so many riffs out there.

I think it's stretching it a bit with 'Curse of the Pharohs'. But a cool find nonetheless.

It's funny how the bit that sticks in my head is the tail at the end of '2 Minutes to Midnight'....

its such as simple riff that it is hard to believe a band like maiden copied riot, but anything is possible. they are identical. good stuff.

on a side note, that riot album is an underrated gem .. great songs on the album.

Not for nothing, but I always thought Ed stole "Black & Blue" from AC/DC's "Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution". And don't get me started about how "Best Of Both Worlds" was lifted lock, stock and barrel from Kool And The Gang's "Celebrate".

Van Hagar even plagiarized Hagar on Othissucksass2. The riff from the 7 minute tequila commercial "Cabo Wabo" was virtually the same as the one Hagar wrote for the Montrose song "Make it Last" (which Spam claimed was his "audition" for that band, so it was his riff, and not Ronnie's)

And then there's the Van Hagar song "Standing On Top Of The World" from F.U.C.K.

                Guitar riff stolen from "Jump".

Pre-chorus (the "Hey Baby" part) stolen from Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down".

And in a more humorous case of riff-recycling, although this is a rough demo and never was officially released, it's still amusing how Edge (or possibly Bono?) throws a riff from The Monkees "Pleasant Valley Sunday" into this one.......

...of course, the whole song has a 60's vibe to it really.

Most of those early Riot albums are gems. Too bad there were so many lineup changes and deaths. The two albums with Rhett Forrester on vocals are personal faves of mine.

Speaking of Tom Petty, one of the more blatant ripoffs of recent years was the Red Hot Chili Peppers copying Tom Petty's Mary Jane's Last Dance note for note with Dani California.

are you aware that they were signed (albeit short-lived) to support the legendary SAMMY HAGAR in the US back in the day?

awful tragedy with rhett. they never caught the scumbag who killed him.
