This has to be the strangest chain of events in US Presidential election history... Funny thing is... there's most likely more bizarre bullshit to come!

Had dinner with a group of long time friends... I refer to as my Democrat and lesbian gang. A few were gushing over how much of a change the DNC convention was... I mentioned it's historic having a woman of color as the nominee, but was curious how they felt about how she got there. They asked what I meant... clarified that she fell into it without a single vote being cast for her and doesn't that diminish the accomplishment somewhat..?

My wife kicked me under the table for even bringing up the question... But the response was no surprise... as the chief lesbian proudly pointed out ... they'll take the win any way they can get it!! Her wife says well it would have been sweeter if she'd kicked ass on her own... I just smiled and nodded... They went on about it for another 20 minutes and I kept my mouth shut... my work was done.

I think one of the lesbians could have pointed out that Trump has stood for president twice and lost the vote by 3 million the first time and 7 million the second time but maybe she got kicked under the table...

Harris on the other hand won public votes for attorney general and senator.

If the implication is that she has had it easy getting to where she is then history suggests its usually a hell of a lot easier for the old white guy with the inherited wealth to become a presidential nominee...

Well... the discussion I mentioned didn't get very deep into much and Trump was never mentioned. It was a friendly casual dinner with 11 people... most of which grew up in this small town, went to school together, and have been friends for over 50 years.

I know Harris got votes and was elected AG and Senator for California... her rise to VP wasn't all that remarkable... her rise to the Democratic nominee for President on the other hand is quite out of the ordinary...

I'm not sure what your point is about old wealthy white guys. Yeah, that's the predominant demographic for majority of top leadership office holders throughout the history of the USA. Not saying it's right or wrong... it is what it has been. Poor folks, women, and minorities haven't filled those positions historically... but things are slowly shifting a bit and it's about time...

Well it's just a thing about fairness.

I do get your point though with the Harris not getting an actual vote a kind of similar thing happened here with a couple of years ago Conservatives whereby they have a system which means that the elected Conservatives choose 2 candidates and the party members choose which in a vote. This was happening because Boris Johnson was kicked out by his own party for lying all the time. They had the choice between a very right wing candidate of South Asian descent and a fucking lunatic who was white and the party members went for the lunatic Truss who managed to destroy our economy in a few weeks as predicted by her opponent who then became Prime Minister when she was also removed by her own party.

My point being that much was made of the UK having a leader of Indian descent but he was never voted in by actual voters and was kicked out at the next election so maybe it's not a thing to be boasting about just yet. With Harris you have already had Obama in the US and I guess we will know soon enough if being a mixed race woman really does preclude you from being president like say being an atheist or openly bald would.

Secondly I was making the point that anyone saying she is only there because of her ethnicity is ignoring the fact that Trump would be washing cars like Biff if he hadn't inherited 100s of millions of dollars.
