Thing is with the far left they are true believers in the nanny state.

      Our NDP are the same.

They want to nationalize all resources and media...phone, cable, internet...everything.

No competetion...no investment...just tax payer funded services for tax payers....which we stil have to pay for when we want them....nothing like paying twice for one thing.

Full complete control over everything we have and do.

While I fully embrace their social conscience and concerns for labour...they worry me.

I think Hugo is going to show us Socialism taken too far....

Nationalizing resources is actually looking pretty good right now.

Would I prefer a free enterprise system in which true competition keeps prices low and quality high? Absolutely.

But that no longer exists. At least not on this side of the 49th parallel. If you guys still have such a thing in Canada, hold on to it as long as you can.

But 3 or 4 huge companies controlling an industry (and fixing prices) doesn't equal competition. And when those companies control the government - as the oil industry, the pharmaceuticals, and the "defense" contractors do in the US, it then becomes fascism, as Mussolini himself defined it (corporatist state)

And given the worldwide results of fascism (and I mean THIS decade, not the 1940's) maybe socialism wouldn't be so bad, by comparison?

The only problem I have with Nationalizing natural resources is that you can not stifel investment...which in alot of cases is foreign.

You need to have royalty taxes in place to ensure that at least you get to keep some money before all the profits...other than wages, Utilities and taxes leave the country.

The Potash Mine I work at is owned my Mosaic...which is part of Cargil...a huge US company.
Our sales for finished product are much stronger and we are looking at expansion...mainly because of Cargil's sales team, port and ships.

          So...I benefit from foreign investment.

On the down swing though...there is a real "don't give a fuck" attitude towards us as employees from the decision makers down south.
Something that really stuck us as odd after being owned by a Canadian company...we did not expect any change.

My province' Uranium industry is heavy in French investment.

Much like Hugo's oil wells...it took foregin investment and expertise to get that oil flowing.

Unfortunatley....when big companies keep buying out small companies we lose comptetion.
Everyone has their price....and our costs as consumers are going up.

We have not slipped as far as you guys have...It is hard to have free trade agreements than start with protectionism.
But...we do need to ensure all does not get lost...some controls need to be put in place.

I just do not like the idea of the nanny state.

Yes, because clearly he espouses the neofacsist ideology held by everyone at "MSRNC," as our favorite conspiracy theorist likes to call it...

To the contrary..... by keeping Keith Olberman on the air, they can claim to be "unbiased". Even though everyone else on the network is a Busheep.

Still at least they have ONE. CNN meanwhile gives prime time air to a raving Nazi lunatic like Glenn BecKKK, and FAUX....well, do I even need to say it?

Oh, cut the crap!!! If they wanted a "Token Lib" they could have gotten far less insightful/credible. And they would NOT give him the 8pm timeslot!!! Meanwhile, what say you to Chris Matthews? If it weren't for his criticisms of the administration, the whole leak case debacle may never have happened!!!

And as for the likes of Beckkk, i'm convinced the one reason he's on the air at all is b/c execs at CNN wants to expose the far-right for the crazy uneducated lunatics for what they are!!!

Tweety Matthews ain't no Liberal. I don't care WHO he used to work for.

I wish I could find the quote where he's having a gay crush on Chimpy right on the air during the "Mission Accomplished" fiasco. It made it pretty obvious what side he was on (and I don't mean sexually)

As for your theory about BecKKK and CNN, I might have bought that idea if Ted Turner were still running the network. But under AOL ownership, CNN has become FAUX II. They just conceal it better.

Of course he is, or his nation is. Your neighborhood CITGO stations sells "his" oil here and contributes a significant amount of product to the US market...

My point is: why is he worse than any other supposed dictator? Chavez was democratically elected and maintains a sizable majority of support in Venezuela.

Do I like him? Not really. I think he's become a bombastic, meglomanical cunt that's turning into everything he claims to hate.

But the double standard of left wing bastards versus reactionary bastards is a bit appalling here. The attempt at some judgemental moralistic aspersion is so putrid and hypocritically gauling it's not funny...
