The roadster pictured above was the first model that Tesla built. They started "big" with the sports car version, and then moved on to the "family sedan" oriented Model S.

As for "bullshit reasoning", even if global warming and the lack of "clean" oil sources weren't real issues, there's certainly no harm in a better alternative for them. Ultimately, if you had a green power generation device of some kind at your home - solar power, wind, or whatever and were charging a Tesla from that, you would essentially be driving the car for "free", at least on local commutes. How the charging stations are set up on a nationwide grid for road trips is another story, of course. And because an electric car would require less maintenance than a combustion engine model, that would save a lot of money over the long run as well.

Maybe you should write Elon Musk and ask him if he could make a Tesla Buggy?
