              Wasn't it just a few months ago Trump wanted to pull out of Afghanistan..?

              Dems and some Republicans called it a stupid move... Why the hell would the US want to waste any more time and money on that place?

              The people of that region don't want us there... there's no real strategic value either diplomatically or geographically. There's clearly no longer any 9/11 threat...

              I guess it finally comes down to the analogy George Carlin sighted for Vietnam... "Pull out..? Doesn't sound manly to me, Bill. I say leave it in there and get the job done!"

                  Because he wanted to do it instantly, to coincide with the end of his term. This is a more coherent gradual withdrawal.

                  But I don't think it is wise, there's only about 2,300 or so there anyways...
