I've been contemplating retirement lately... but hell, if these old farts can lead the free world well into their 70's/80's... I see no need to rush out of the workplace... I definitely don't need more free time to follow politics!!!

The problem is that these old farts have not been doing a very good job of leading the world. Trump, Biden and Putin have made way more mistakes than previous younger incumbents. You're old enough to remember when Russia was run by super old fucks pre Gorbyachev and things didn't go great. Or Reagans second term when the wheels came off. Reagan was 78 at the end of that - younger than Trump and Biden.

Yeah I do remember the times when Reagan was president. Recently watched the movie Reagan and had forgotten that 3 of the Russian leaders died in succession over a relatively short period leading to Gorbachev's rise to power. Plus I remember concerns being raised about Reagan's mental state with the onset of Alzheimer's... at t least he and Nancy announced his having it shortly after he left office.

Trump could well last longer mentally than Reagan or Biden because he doesn't really do much work and probably sleeps plenty but that's not really a great selling point either. Especially when he doesn't seem to be very good at picking people to delegate to - otherwise he wouldn't need to keep sacking them.

If you remember it came to light that Nancy Reagan was pretty powerful towards the end of his presidency. Then we found out she was had been consulting a medium and that sounded less than ideal.
