Trump seems to be saying that trade is a zero sum game - that if one country sells more to another country they win and trade deficit is the same as loss on a profit/loss account.

He is also saying that say you put a 20% tariff on something the country sending it to you pays it and not the customer in the US.

This stuff is just bullshit, it's like the economics version of the bleach thing with COVID.
