EVH Gear Striped Series: Frankie Relic

I didn't see any threads on the Frankie Relic.

I have been strolling the guitar stores and stalking the internet sites thinking about buying at least one of the EVH Gear Striped Series guitars. Only in the last month, before Eddie's passing, everything is on backorder. I think we can attribute that to COVID. So I do not expect to see any EVH Gear Striped Series in stores anytime soon.

So I walked into Guitar Center in one of the armpits of CA, Sacramento, this last weekend. I really like to look at the Used Gear racks. They had a new Frankie Relic right out of the box behind the counter. I hesitated because really I wanted the Black & Yellow Bumblebee edition. I had an opportunity so I forked out the cash and walked away with a FrankenStrat.

I have to say, it plays pretty cool. Neck: I like the large radius fretboard and jumbo frets; the neck is satin finish, no gloss, thank you EVH. This is my first Floyd Rose, after playing guitar for 30+ years. The drop-D Tuna whatever is amazing. It drops a full step, in tune; and brings it back up a full step, in tune.

I ended up ordering the Bumblebee edition yesterday. I couldn't help myself. It's on backorder.

      $1699

Far more reasonable than the $16,999 version.

Do the necks on those have the Wolfgang carve?

I really like the Wolfgang necks. Even the OLP Music Man knockoffs have super comfortable necks.

Honestly I have never played or really handled a Wolfgang. I would think they should be nearly identical if that's the feel Eddie liked.

I found a fun website the other night: https://projectevh.com

I prefer my own replica.. But it was only a matter of time before the affordable version of an EVH Frankie.
All EVH stripe series guitars have sold out everywhere.

Yeah my memory was that it was $25k not $16k.

Interesting looking back at that old thread and it confirmed again why I would never buy one even at 1/10 that price. As a bit of art in a bar fine...

Pretty sure I would struggle with the fret width too, you could never play one live at a gig unless you were in a VH tribute act and the bottom line is that most things apart from maybe Les Paul quality and a lack of good woods have improved over the last 40 years. If you walked into a cathedral that Bach had played the organ in, you wouldn't assume you could play it as well and the single thing that had been holding you back was the instrument not your ability to play.

Wow, 25K is a tidy sum for a slab guitar.

Yes I found some Stupid Prices! This year, Guitar Center had a $16,999 model on line. The Charvel EVH art series from several years ago were stupid expensive. Now people are trying to sell them on Reverb for Insane prices.

I own more guitars than I need... but I couldn't even consider paying $17k for a guitar no matter what it was made of or who made it. $65k... no fucking way!

I get the sentimental artwork aspects of Frankie...

Yeah 5-10 years from now they'll end up in garage sales.
