Squires are better than they used to be. I think some of the Mexican made Fenders are some of the best bargains out there. I love the Jimmy Vaughn Strat. You could get them new for about $800. Good to go out of the box. I mean if you want the best wood, the best finish, immaculate polished hardware and frets then of course it’s US made but it’s going to cost you. For a meat and potatoes work horse some of the Mex stuff can do it.
Squires are starter guitars but the newer ones can be set up decently. Who needs a decent guitar more than anyone is the beginner and most start on cheap crap with poor action. They get frustrated and quit. If they had a light set of strings on a nice playing neck maybe they would have stuck with it.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

My wife bought me a Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Strat for Christmas back in 97... love that guitar and it's still my number 1 to this day!

I have one. I leave it in the living room to play around on. They make a US made version now but the Hecho En Mexico version is fine for me. I love the neck and you only can get that shallow V neck on that guitar. The pick guard is a one ply 50’s style pickguard. They were flimsy on the originals and the original ones turn green because they are nitrocellulose plastic. The pickups are perfect, I like the wiring scheme better than a regular Strat. Nice to have a tone control on the bridge pickup.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

I have two Hecho en Mexico guitars - the EVH Frankie and Bumblebee. I am happy with both. I'll buy Hecho en Mexico any day over Hecho in China.Comment

My pickguard has a yellowish tinge to it now... not sure if that's natural due to the material or from hanging out in my buddies' smoke filled studio for too many hours. I call it contact-buzz™ yellow... LOL
Without a doubt the V-shaped neck is one of my favorite aspects. I have all my Strats wired the same... to me that's the "correct" way a Strat should be wired with tone control on the bridge and neck pickups with the middle wide open with noise cancelling in positions 2 and 4 on the 5-way."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

Mine hasn’t turned yellow yet so it might be the smoke. Yeah the bridge pickup is too bright without a tone knob. I have a Warmoth parts Strat I built with a reverse headstock and reverse bridge pickup. It sounds great. It’s a right handed guitar but with a Hendrix setup. I had the body sprayed metal flake purple.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

Yeah but the Tex Mex Jimmy Vaughan Strat is a great guitar and I play mine a lot because it’s out and about. My nice Gibson’s are safe in their cases in a climate controlled room and it’s too much trouble to break them out. I mean If the grandkids ding my Jimmy Vaughn it’s no big deal and I know nothing is going to easily snap off of it. The more that neck breaks in the better it’s going to be and I hope it looks like a burned out whore ten years from now. Maybe I should keep it in a smokey room too.No!
