I suppose the type of people going to the Hagar show would in terms of name recognition more impressed with John Bonham's kid on drums than Kenny Aronoff.

I tend to doubt the switch in drummers will make much difference re: musical quality of the show.

Maybe there would be a degree of letdown to those who already bought tickets thinking Jason Bonham would be playing?

Aronoff played with John Forgerty too, especially during the Premonition Tour (1997-98). A very good, solid and enthusiastic drummer.

But Spammy can go to hell.

    Hard to say.

All I've heard from him is the stuff he did with John Cougar. From what I've read over the years via music trade magazines and online articles, he is a well-regarded drummer. He has worked with a lot of other artists besides John Cougar. Some pretty high-profile rock legend names, too...much higher than Hagar, from the list I read.

Hard to say in that perhaps Jason Bonham is possibly a more natural stylistic fit for Van Hagar music than Aronoff, perhaps.

Personally, I've never thought Jason Bonham was a particularly spectacular drummer. Wouldn't say he was a bad drummer, but to my ears a very average rock drummer...especially when he's working with groups other than Led Zeppelin or Jimmy Page and isn't playing John Bonham-type fills and the like. But, [Jason Bonham] has via his lineage an advantage re: name visibility that Aronoff doesn't. Aronoff just had to, you know, make it via his own grit and talent. Which of course isn't as compelling a story as being "the son of John Bonham."

Honestly, I'd rather see John Cougar than the Hagar tour.

Both Sammy Hagar and the My Pillow guy just won’t disappear. Leave an opportunity for either to showboat themselves and sell some crap they are on it like flys to shit.

My opinion... Hagar ran his mouth far too many times disrespecting Edward Van Halen and using EVH as subject matter to draw attention to himself.

Alex loved his brother and most likely reached a point where he felt everyday Hagar walks this earth is a good day for Sammy to go fuck himself... Good for Alex...
I'm not even sure as to why a publisher would even care about Alex Van Halen talking to Hagar during the period between said publisher and Van Halen signing the deal and the book being released.

I'm not even sure as to if a publisher would even have a legal avenue to either request or enforce a lack of communication between two parties. I understand what an NDA is, but what Hagar is describing is something else...or sounds like something else.

Sammy Hagar is my name. Bullshit is my game. What’s the difference between Sammy Hagar and a mega church minister or a politician? Not a damn thing.

    As would VH fans.

Al always came across as a bit stoic to me. Somewhat aloof. No doubt he was hard core at times
but after his malt liquor days he seemed to be more like a Charlie Watts type of guy.
I agree completely the publisher would welcome the insights... but the article mentioned Sam thinking that the reason Alex wouldn't talk to him was due to a publisher's restriction. Sounds like bullshit to me...

I think Al see’s no point in continuing a music career. There’s no money in recorded music anymore. You have to be on the road or do a residency to make money. Been there done that. I think the guy wants to be free of all that now. He wants a different life now.

I think it’s in the genes. Eddie didn’t talk much either in the early days but became better at it over time. The Van Halen’s just aren’t the extrovert types. Wolfgang is quiet and laid back as well.

You would be smarter to spend the $1,000 in the casino. There’s a slight chance you might win some money. Sammy will just take your $1,000 and give you nothing for it.

Why Al isn’t giving Sam the time of day is Sam publicly slagged Ed when the guy was at his lowest low. Divorced, addicted and full of cancer. The reason that tour with Sammy happened was Ed’s family thought the responsibility of having to do shows would snap Ed out of his funk. Of course they could get Sam to sing because it’s $$$$$ and being the singer for VH. Sam knew the deal with Ed but slagged him anyways.
