I have two college buddies who live over where the LA fires are. One has a home in Brentwood. Several fires have started. One house in Studio City caught fire and that caught the brush and neighboring homes on fire. Just up the hill from there is the Van Halen estate and 5150. Luckily the firefighters were able to extinguished those fires before they spread. They almost issued an evacuation order for the whole area.
There was a fire just down the hill from 5150

The fire department got that fire out pretty quick. The hydrants must have had water in Studio City. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

Plus the upstairs storage room with Ed's old gear... his old Marshall heads, a bunch of rare and odd-ball vintage guitars, EB Music Man's, Peavey Wolfgangs, Fender EVH Wolfgangs and his tuba..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

To be honest when I saw how close that fire was and it’s downhill and fires tend to burn uphill I did cringe at the thought of everything burning up. We live in a forrest fire danger area. We clear out all the dead under growth around our subdivision and cut the dead trees up for firewood. There’s not much fuel for a fire so hopefully it will keep a fire out of here.

Pacific Palisades is 95% gone. Altadena is pretty much gone. The hills around LA have always been a tinderbox when the Santa Ana winds dry everything out but in the past they had excellent fire prevention. They stopped clearing brush and doing controlled burns for some environmental reasons. There were empty hydrants. Once you get a fire going with high winds it's almost impossible to put out. If you are lucky you let the fire burn to the top of the ridge and fire bomb the shit out of it and it goes out. There's really no excuse. People pay very high taxes in those areas. There's also federal funds for fire prevention. There needs to be an investigation where all the money for fire prevention went. Some of the fire funds were diverted to help with the homeless problem. Good ol mismanaged LA. It's been a mess for years. Next will be mudslides. Malibu is basically a disaster area. So is Laguna Beach. But people want the nice ocean view. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!👍 1Comment
