        Fuck it, go DIY.

There're independent pressing plants around the world, there are ways of moving the records from point A to point B (without a label's inteference) and last I heard, word of mouth is still a good way to promote. As is playing shows.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

How about Sony BMG. (As Mark said)

They seem to have tons of money these days and are signing some big acts.

If Rick Rubin can get the performance that he did out of a half-dead Johnny Cash, he can get it out of a brain-dead Edward Van Halen.
Yep, he'd be the man for the job.

Not too sure we'll ever see them make a record though, and Rubin is a very hands-off producer, so maybe he wouldn't be a strong enough presence to hold them together in the studio.

My second choice would be Jack Douglas...

That's a great idea in principle: however, with VH's current management situation, that record would probably not get the distribution it deserved.

If they get decent managment, then I'd say independent is the best way...

Plus he LOVES CVH. thats a fact. I have even heard him go into in depth analysis of the variences in Ed's tone from the first to the 6th album. He always said that Women and Children First had a somewhat brittle sound compared to 1 and 2 and that Diver Down also had a somewhat harsher tone.

Rick Rubin would fucking make Van Halen sound like twenty year olds again. The tone he got for Damon from System is as good as I have ever heard, brown sound without a doubt.
