Sammy Hagar has shared his thoughts on Alex Van Halen's omission of the "Van Hagar" era in his recent memoir, 'Brothers'.
Earlier this week, Hagar took to Instagram to post a photo from 1991 of himself with Eddie Van Halen. Responding to a fan who commented that “most purists believe [Van Halen] ended with [David Lee Roth]”, Hagar wrote: “It could have [ended], my friend, but instead we went on to sell over 50 million records for [a] No. 1 album [then] sold out every building and stadium in the world for a whole decade. That never happened again.”
Hagar went on to continue: “Alex is not doing his brother’s musical legacy justice by not acknowledging all the No. 1 albums and some great music Eddie and I wrote together — not Alex — but Eddie and I wrote together. To not acknowledge [those] 10 years of music is blasphemy to his brother’s musicianship, songwriting and legacy.”
Ha.

Even all of Van Hagar combined doesn't hit that number. WTF is Spammy going on about.
Sold out every arena and stadium? Um no they didn't.
And they never did a run of stadiums. (see my previous post about why the Monsters of Rock tour was put together). Why doesn't Sam mention opening for Bon Jovi in Europe in 1995?
What utter bullshit this idiot keeps spewing.Last edited by Vinnie Velvet; 01-03-2025, 05:07 PM.=V V=

Easily the best thing about Alex's book is blanking Hagar. It's hilarious so much better than listing every lie, betrayal or dumb lyric.

You can’t be in a band and not know the people in it well. Alex knows Sammy. Al knows just ignoring Sammy will drive the man nuts. It’s working. Sam is crying like a little bitch nonstop. As far as album sales go VH I and 1984 sold more records than the whole Van Hagar catalog. Van Hagar always bombed in Europe. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!👍 1Comment

Yup. On top of that Al said he was able to build a happy home life and he said Ed wasn't able to do that. Music was everything to Ed and he was trying to get to somewhere he never could.
Al said he was never consumed by the music to that level because he had other things in his life. Other than losing his brother Al seems happy. He's got his family. He's got property that he can kick back on and enjoy with his wife. He has nothing to prove. Sam on the other hand should be content but he's not. He self promotes like a motherfucker. He's hungry for attention. It's like dude. You are almost 80. Disappear and enjoy your money. Nope. Sam not only is addicted to attention, he wants to have the big legacy. He wants to be the top guy in Van Halen. Dude. You didn't help build that band. You came in helped write some new songs and sang. You are not the legacy. You were a replacement singer who was in the band for a few years. It's like a replacement singer in Journey thinking he's going to ride off with Steve Perry's legacy. Sam thing with Sam. It's so stupid. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!👍 2Comment

And he's never gotten over it. Hence the consistent lying over the years about how many records the band sold when he was in it. He couldn't stand it when the band finally reconvened with Dave in the 2000's. Doubtless, because he feared being looked at as filler between the two periods the band was helmed by Roth. That would explain this half-assed 'tribute' tour he did this past year.
It IS stupid. Stupid and sad. Hagar had his degree of success as a solo act. He had success with Van Halen. His career is what it was. His time with Van Halen was what it was. Ed's gone. Van Halen is over. The legacy for a majority of people is what the band did with Dave up to and including 1984. Touring with Mike Anthony and Joe Satriani playing Eddie's parts isn't gonna make anyone feel any differently about what Van Halen meant to them.
Bah!Scramby eggs and bacon.👍 1Comment

A website that collects and analyzes music data from around the world. All of the charts, sales and streams, constantly updated.
And if you look at the most played Van Halen song on Spotify, it's mostly CVH. Only 2 Hagar era songs on Top 10 and only about 15 songs in Top 50! Also apparently that 2023 Hagar box set didn't do anything to gain new interest because only songs in Top 100 that have "2023 Remaster" in the title on that list are Humans Being (#27) and Respect The Wind (#91). So even people who do listen Van Hagar listens those old versions of those albums.Comment

Sam is really driven but he’s also delusional. He comes off as a nice happy guy but he’s out to be top dog. He has to be the Big Guy. When he said I’m Van Halen now because I’m the only one left who can perform. Excuse me Sam but what about Mike? He’s been in the band longer than you and he’s still performing. Sam is a shark. He’s going to use you when he needs you and when he’s gotten what he wants he kicks you to the curb. I’m Van Halen now. Yeah right. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

After the Spamuel thing dies, he will just be a footnote in VH history.

Sammy Hagar Faces Backlash Over Mocking Eddie Van Halen’s Guitar Playing

I think it won’t take as long as 50 years for Sambo to be forgotten. Here we are in 2025 and there’s still a lot of interest in the music made in the 1970’s and 80’s. The VH six pack will be but anything after that not so much. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

In a new interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, legendary rocker Sammy Hagar, who is preparing for a nine-show Las Vegas residency in the spring, said that he longer wants to spend any time on the road. "I don't think I want to go on tour anymore," he said. "I hate to say that, because I don't...
About his Vegas residency:
"I don't think I want to go on tour anymore," he said. "I hate to say that, because I don't want to piss my fans off. I'll go out and do a one-off show and do things like that, but the residency is going to give me a good extension of my career. That's what I'm hoping for."
"With this, I don't have to travel, I don't have to unpack and pack and get on an airplane every day. You know, at my age, it hurts my shoulders to do all this. And I have to perform. I'm a performer, at the end of the day."
"I keep telling my manager, 'Don't take any tours, let me do this residency,'" Hagar added. "If I like it enough, I'll do another one. And if that's successful I'll do another one, and I can squeeze a few more years out of my career."
I guess he's too "rickety" too.
