Haha so good. I went over to the Links and the Hagarites are having a hissy about it.

Alex even acknowledges that the magic and creativity was the original band.

As far as the tribute tour/shows are concerned I think I know why Dave seemed against doing them. Cause even Alex admits afterwards that not doing them was probably a good idea anyway. As no one can take Ed's place. Which I think is where Dave was coming from despite Al butting heads with him on it.

Brian May was just 44 when Freddie Mercury died these Alex and Dave were pushing 70 it's not really the same thing.

        Context is everything.

And the Rolling Stone article fails at that.

Dave was by no means against a tribute show/tour for Eddie. He was the one who in fact suggested Satriani if I recall but also wanted Mike back while Alex, supposedly, wanted Jason Newstead. Now, using the Queen example where May plays Love of My Life along with a video of Freddie, it could be the case that Dave was vehemently against the idea of VH actually doing the same - not necessarily balking at doing any shows with Satriani.
And he's right. Just how dumb would it look to have Dave, Al and Mike do even one song with a video of Ed playing on the jumbotron.

Audio book is released on the 24th, read by AVH himself.

t's not very long @ just over 6 hours., half the length of the recent Geddy Lee and Al Pacino autobiographies.

Audiobook is cheap (or free) on Audible with a trial subscription.

E book hit just after midnight. I'm on the fifth chapter. Forgot to charge the iPad and had to put it down. So far, not too bad. There are some parts that are snips of other interviews. The Charlie Watts book was more of a collection of interviews, this isn't that bad yet.

                    Finished.

It's okay. Doesn't really touch on the 1984 tour, just the album.

Mentioned twice. Once around the recording of the first album and once when they were on the same festival lineup.

The failure of VH3 is also mentioned, just a comment about failure.

That book is just a collection of Ed quotes from various guitar magazine interviews. You've already heard from Ed's perspective if you've read those interviews over the years.

I'm halfway through the audio book and was thinking it's kind of cool that Alex knew Dave's autobiography so well. Then I thought or maybe he's using it to pad out his word count and fill in stuff he doesn't remember. The 40 quotes from the Eruption book kind of confirms the later. I need to get around to reading that book it's been on my to do list for ages now.

it was sad to see the clips of big Al physically impaired from 50 years of rock n roll excess. I loved this clip of him as a carefree young dude:
