It was Alex and Eddie. They have done more to create, and then fuck the band's history. What those 2 Dutchmen have done not only to Dave, but the fans as well really sucks. They even brought in Gary Cherone. With Cherone, they made 3, and we all know what happened there.

Spammy, EVH, and SHemp/Alex VAn Halen. Spammy for roaring up out of OBLIVION and instantly talkin' shit about DAVE, knowing he was going to offend DAVE's LEGIONS of fans. EVH for being a drunken WOMAN, who can't seem to GROW UP even though he is around 50 (Who REALLY knows how old these guys are!) and take RESPONSIBILITY for his OWN life instead of BLAMING everyone else for his shortcomings as a human. AND SHEMP Van Halen for being a total CUNT for at least 50 years. This guy is a GAPING ASSHOLE who needs to realize HE'S JUST THE FUCKING DRUMMER!!!!!

I have just Eddie. He admits it was his idea to use synths. The synths to me were the end of the band--they never recovered after that phase.

It really didn't matter who the singer was at that point--even DLR--the band would have sunk with Eddie's crappy ideas of using synths and writing solely pop songs.

This however doesn't excuse Sambo from being a total asshole, however that assholishness isn't the reason that VH's legacy is crap anymore.

Well... That depends... Was Dave fired or did he quit?

It's always been Ed. He's the virtuoso that was once the darling of every guitar magazine cover. He was the one that forgot the concept of what a band really is. In short, he began to believe his own hype.

I would have to say it was a combo. of SH, EV and AV. Dave bought so much to VH, Sammy couldn't humor, kick ass performance and personality just to name a few. Eddie's music and song writing went down hill as well, just compare Roth era to Sammy era. Roth era was great rock n roll and party band that wanted to go out and have a good time, Sammy era is pop and soft rock and stay home and eat cookies and drink milk with mommy kind of band. Alex is just Eddie's puppet, he does everything that Eddie tells him, follows Eddie where he goes. Alex doesn't think, Eddie decides and thinks for Alex.

You can't really say Sammy , because someone had to HIRE the poser before he could fuck things up.

Wait a minute. We all LOVE Dave, but he has got to be on that list, too. Fact: he quit. I'm pro Dave, but he played a part in their fall from grace by leaving the band in 85.

But had they stopped using the Van Halen name in 85 as the record company was urging them to do, then there would have been no fall from grace for Van Halen. There would have been the envitable fall eventually, but as a band Van Halen would be in the same light as The Beatles, Led Zeplin in other words legendary (as opposed to the joke we have today)

Don, as I posted as DDLR.com, they should have died in a plane crash circa 1985 thus insuring their status as the greatest american hard rock band in history. That way they would have gone out at the top leaving only classic music in their wake. Heres the link to that thread.

No, leaving a band doesn't tarnish the legacy. The members that are remaining can tarnish the legacy by hiring unfit singers to try to carry the torch.

Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett blamed for Genesis' downfall, even though they left around '75. You need to blame that on those cunts Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks.

Well, as much as I've had ENOUGH of talking about Sam, and the fruitcakes, I'll chime in with a Hagar/EVH/AVH vote. Cuz we ALL know Mikey doesn't count, and Dave isn't sittin' around whining and complaing about living in the shadow of Van Halen, whereas Hagar/EVH/AVH ALL live in the shadow of DLR!!!
