God I love that pic. Mike is uncomfortable. Alex is in the background, doing what he does best; nothing. Ed is trying to "spin" everything thrown at him, and Dave could care less as he reaches in his pocket for a quick scratch on the cue ball. :D

God, I love my country. Whenver I raise Van Halen with anyone I meet, its assumed you are talking the real Band !!!! :D

Go and Drive 55 Ya American buggers !!! hehehhehe

Just kidding, but I seriously believe Sammy is nothing outside
the US, apart from the woman who beat Patti Smythe for the
    job in Van Halen....

Same here. I work with mostly YOUNGER people, who if they know VH at ALL it's Van Hagar. PLayed one dude FAIR WARNING & DIVER DOWN and his response was,"WOW! They were a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BAND back in the day! Much heavier and more ROCK!". I think that ALL people need is to HEAR the difference between VAN HALEN and Van Hagar and it becomes IMEDIATELY clear that VAN HALEN is on par with ZEP & The Stones for PURE UNADULTERATED ROCK 'N' ROLL!!!!!!!

Second, if you have half a brain, and you listen to Van HALEN and Van Hagar songs, and do that long enough, despite having the misfortune of not seeing the band live you should eventually be able to come around and realize which is the superior band. Van Hagar is something you should be able to grow out of; that you grew up with it is no excuse. I didn't grow up with Beethoven and it's still fabulous music 200 years later.

Amen, to that. Ed and Dave had a chemistry that Sham could only dream about. I tell the sheep to check out concert footage from 79 or 81. It's absolutely amazing stuff. The sisters know this, that's why they won't release any DLR era footage. It would simply melt the Van Hagar crap.

    Cool F'ing Story

I went out over the w/end to pick up some food to bring back to my place. I went to pick it up and began talking to who I assume was the manager/owner since he was going over the till and asking questions to the cashier. Anyway music came up and that led me to DLR and VH. We spoke for about 15 to 20 minutes and he had seen the classic lineup and DLR solo. Towards the end of the conversation he said and I fucking quote "he kind of was Van Halen" referring to ROTH. He never once said that Eddie or Alex were not important but he remembered (like all of the classic VH FANS WHO SAW THEM) who the star of the show was and who propelled VH to dominate heavy rock from 78-84. And it was very simply DAVID LEE ROTH. Every time I see someone who prefers the Hagar lineup it's almost always the same. They were too young to have seen VH with DLR and many times their first introduction to VH was 5150 or worse OU812 or Balance. I've said it before many times but it's worth repeating forever. If you had seen VH with DLR and had a been around and old enough to understand what was happening there would be no questions about which lineup ruled the rock universe and which lineup merely populated it. Oh and by the way, 2 other people chimed into our conversation and agreed---it was just never the same after DLR left. RIP VAN HALEN 1978-1985.
