What?
He is making himself out to be a GRADE 100% STUPID ASS.
I like how he bags on Kelly Clarkson about the quality and content of her new video? Has DLR listened to his solo disc's? or maybe Kelly should come on the show and critique No Holds BBQ? Now that's video at it's finest.
And then he starts thanking Howard again, too stupid to know Howard doesn't give a fuck about DLR, he is just drumming up subscriptions by helping to keep the train wreck going.
And I thought it was a rock & roll radio show? not Jew Boy Nye "The Science Guy" DLR can't even manage his career, but he is professing to be an expect at disaster preparedness? Well maybe he should worry about the contingency plan for his show.

LMFAO! 9:44am EST - Dave talking about stalking and he has a call from a dude that is actually following his ex-girlfriend in a rental car - the dude is rambling and Dave can't even get a word in. This is funny as hell!
Are you guys listening to this shit! Fucking priceless!

Strategy??? WTF??? I don't give a shit if you want to bash Dave- so long as its funny. Even if it did bother me I am in no position to complain - this ain't my site. I certainly wasn't strategizing about anything with Sesh. The PMs were to thank him and talk about the March 8th show. Paranoid much?
Take a chill, Woody - laugh a little why don't ya....watch this:

Even Wooda has to buckle to admitting that DLR's show is improving and that DLR himself deserves credit for KNOWING the show was shit for the first four weeks.
That lost March 8 show as fucking amazing.
Post By: fuckhowardstern on March 15, 2006, 02:44:02 PM
March 8 was some awesome shit. I have only listened to it all once but there were several portions I want to go back and listen to more carefully. I loved how Sascha bashed the management every chance she could. She probably has more on the line than Dave.
Today's show was pretty damn good radio. None of the topics he talked about I particularly cared for and none of the guests he had were interesting to me in and of themselves. But somehow Dave turned mundane subject matter into thoroughly entertaining radio and I heard about 3 hours of the show.
That guy phoning in at the end of the show stalking his girlfriend - that was about as entertaining as you can ever hope to get on radio. And Dave did an excellent job developing it.
Quote of the day -
B. Young: "Gee Dave, you think that guy may have been on drugs?"
Dave's reply was equally hilarious - something about coffee and cigarettes..... I can't wait to hear that again.

I turned on the 3/8 show at work today, and they made me turn it off because it was boring.

I hate to be such a downer, but I honestly don't hear improvement, and I listen every morning now, just to be a supporter, but it is just hopeless.
I didn't even find March 8th funny or entertaining in any way.
That is not how a stand-up guy deals with adversity, by making excuses and yelling about the bosses, all he did in my opinion was prove how out of touch he is? They are right, it's a business, and in order to sell ADVERTISING MINUTES you need listeners, and to get listeners you need something they find entertaining.
Listening to DLR and the supporting cast is pure hell, like that Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day, where you wake up and live the same thing over and over.
And nobody is being honest about what a hypocrite DLR is turning out to be, not that I already didn't know that.
He swears he would never be a Howard clone and will never give up his strategy, but anyone who is paying attention can hear the crotch humor and ethnic slams creeping in little by little, and he thinks that nobody notices it.
Face it, DLR was a legendary frontman of a long dead band, but other than that he is pretty much over with. His old endless bag of tricks has a hole in the bottom.

Dave’s primary complaint so it seems to me was that he signed up to do a radio show where he had complete artistic control over the content. In fact, if you believe Dave, it is stated that he is to have exclusive control over the content and style of the show in his contract with CBS.
Now CBS, 8 weeks into a 3 or 4 year deal, decides it wants to unilaterally renegotiate material terms of the contract. They now want to do what their market research determines will be a show that sells more advertisement.
The fact that Dave got a lower initial rating from Arbita than Howard usually did was completely anticipated and had very little to do with the content of the radio show during that time. And it doesn’t, as far as I know, give CBS the right to breach its contractual obligation to allow Dave complete artistic and creative control of the show.
That Dave spent some time on his March 8 show “yelling about the bosses” is indicative of his nature as an artist, not his ethics as a businessman. He was forced into vacation for a week. Rumors are flying around everywhere about his show being cancelled and him being replaced. They pull Roth into a meeting with lawyers present and then they say: “we don’t care what we agreed to let you do in the contract two months ago, this is what you are going to do now” and what they want him to do is ridiculous.
The guy is emotional to begin with - of course this is going to spill over onto the show the next day. His behaviour is completely justified. What the hell does anyone expect? What would you rather him do, Wooda? Show up the next day and be the perfect corporate puppet? Fuck that shit! He is in the process of getting a royal shafting by CBS.
In fact, if he wants to preserve his rights to sue or countersue CBS for breach of contract by reason of its failure to allow him complete artistic control of the show, he must keep showing up for work each day and try to do the show the way he envisions it - the way CBS envisioned it when they offered him the job - not the way the program director of the day tells him to do it.
That is what the CBS bargained for. In essence CBS did its research and its calculations in advance and they determined if they let Dave go carte blanche with complete artistic control that WOULD generate sufficient advertisement income. And now they want to change their mind because Howards audience by-in-large really did follow Howard to Sirius like they expected all along. Bullshit! CBS is acting in complete bad faith.

WTF are you talking about? The shows I have heard, which are like, almost all of them, are far removed from anything Howard Stern does even when Roth has porn stars call in. I will not list all the differences as I see them but to illustrate how completely original the show is consider that this is the only show on the air anywhere where you can listen to one of the most awesome rock starts EVER try to learn how to become a radio talk show host minute by minute and with all faults. The show is trial by fire and some of it has been painful to listen to and wince-inducing but a lot of people find it entertaining and, whether you recognize it or not, the show has tremendous potential.
Howard Stern doesn’t have an exclusive right to use occasional “crotch humor and ethnic slams” (whatever you mean by that….). And it is not uncharacteristic of Dave since the beginning of his career to joke about sex. I just don’t see how you can call that hypocritical. It seems to me that the guy has been on the air for eight weeks and all the fuck he has tried to do with every ounce of his being is honestly entertain us. CBS is treating him like a disposable piece of deli meat and the guy is sweating bullets trying to make his show work. He is doing a damn good job of it under the circumstances.

I think its pretty good as far as morning radio goes. I don't always pay attention to it but it is usually on as I get ready for work and if I am in the office in the morning. Sometimes I will catch a rebroad cast at night if I am online.
I am fan of Dave's music with CVH for the most part and if he wants to do a radio show I support that - but I could live pretty easily without it.
I just don't think its too cool that the guy is getting fucked with by CBS. I don't think he needs it and objectively I don't think its a good thing for his career.

I swear to god, just stopping the loops playing constantly in the background would improve his show 50%. It's like he never really comes all the way out of the commercial break. It's almost stressful and makes it hard to even take him seriously. If 3/8 was Dave's best show, then Dave sucks on the radio. That's all I got to say.

There are tens of thousands of people out there that listen to Roth's show every day so why does it surprise you that some of them that like the show might come to this site?
Your ranting like Lou about this show now just saying it's shit for the sake of it. The worst show on radio? That's just stupid.
I've criticised parts of the shows plenty of times but on the whole I like it or I wouldn't listen, maybe you shouldn't? Saying that you do so to support the show is fucking ludicrous. I think they would rather lose 1 listener than have you bashing them relentlessly on the second biggest Roth forum on the interweb.
Whatever...
I tell you another thing I get up most days at 10:30-11am which is 6am EST so I could listen to the show every day as my breakfast show and I never do. I listen to it in the afternoon or more often at night in the background while I work or post here which means I don't have 12 advert breaks to disrupt the flow and it suits the mood better. Maybe it isn't a morning format at all but I think all US radio sucks live because of the long ad breaks.
Commercial breaks here are never more than a few minutes(more frequently) or on the BBC you don't get them at all. I don't understand why people don't switch channels every time an 8 or 10 minute ad spot comes on??? Must be a cultural thing.
Alice Coopers radio show is by all accounts a success. It is on at night, he plays a lot of rock music but I've listened to 6 or so of his interviews recently and they are pretty tedious and nowhere near as good as Roth's.
Cheers!

I heard that they are negotiating with O&A I beleive still talking to Danny Bonaduce. He was seen at 1515 Bway today (old cbs studios). My wife works in the building and said people were getting his autograph.
CBS is scumbagging Dave, pure and simple. Maybe if Dave was easier to work with they would give him the 18 months. Nevertheless I believe that they are setting Dave up big time to not pay him. They told him to get rid of animal, stop the music and be like howard. They know dave will tell them to fuck off and that's the out they need.

Possible. I guess it all comes down to how good Dave's lawyers were when the contract was drawn up. CBS seemed to be pretty keen to get Roth in the first place plus Roth surely has a good lawyers by now...

And spare us your amature analysis - you don't even know what the fucking contract says - how can you speculate what gives CBS the "out they need".

Now eveyone is entitled to their opinion, CBS is not doing anything wrong to DLR. He is just like any other person who gets hired to do a job.
Provide results or face elimination, and to date he has lost ratings not gained them, and by showing what a puss he is by blaming it all on everyone but himself he just shows that CBS needs to make a switch.
IMO If he were a stand-up guy he would have said one of 2 things.
1) put me in the 7:00pm time slot where I can be a success
2) Leave me where I am, and I see that ratings are bad, what can we do to make the listeners happy? not what can DLR do to change every ones opinion to loving that crap he is trying to pawn off as a professional show.

Roth is doing better than Corolla ratings wise and everyone else they signed up.
They obviously don't know what the fuck they are doing. Roth has a big vision which may or may not come off but they seem to be plain dumb. Last couple of days I've been listening to some really funny shit that Ricky Gervais the guy who did 'The Office' did on podcast.
These shows were recorded last Summer but who cares they are LOL funny. At the time they had fuck all listeners on digital radio but now they are charging $1 a show and it's #1 on iTunes in the UK for downloads. These people at CBS really don't seem to know what the fuck they are doing. Times are changing big time in radio and with some imagination there is money to be made just not the old way.

Before you start thinking that DLR is really doing better than Adam, you need to look at the number of alternatives for classic rock fans in NYC and in LA.
LA has Mark & Brian who always had better or damn close ratings to Howard, there was and is nobody else close in NYC, who by the way has the biggest population of listeners
Post By: Seshmeister on March 15, 2006, 09:34:19 PM
What I'm saying is shit like going for 35 year old male Lynard Skynard fans in NYC is just fucking stupid and proves that CBS is a dinosaur.
If it was me I would wait a few months until the show continues to improve, put Roth on the road and start charging 50 cents for the podcasts ultimately start to throw in a few multinational adverts into them for Starbucks or MacD's or whatever. Also increase Roths exposure in every way they can think of. Roth is right, him on Letterman or whatever with an international audience is the way to go.
That all said the quality of the show would need to improve a little but I think Roth see's the bigger picture here, the CBS people don't.
Post By: Seshmeister on March 15, 2006, 09:37:25 PM
It's all about the stuff between the music. Why should anyone in this day in age listen to the radio for classic rock. If I want to listen to that I'll choose exactly what I want not what a DJ happens to play from a tedious shallow cuts list?
Apart from being in Scotland I am dead centre of Tom Chuisano's demographic and there is no way I would listen to the show he wants.

Stern's biggest market was New York.
Roth took it from a 7.9 share to a 1.8 (in the core 18-34 male, it went from a 13.8 to 1.3).
Carolla isn't very impressive in LA (0.7), but Stern only had 3.0 in the first place.

I just read the first few sentences and that's all I need.
Dave is a liar, not even Stern with his $20 mil contract at CBS had 100% artistic control, so they were not about to give an unproven talent that kind of clout. That doesn't even happen for Letterman let alone the Richard Simmons of rock.
He is just trying to turn the story in his favor like he tried to do when he walked on VH, he is a master of everybody else is wrong.
You have a decent job right? He is no different, you get a good deal with a nice budget, but that doesn't mean it's yours to spend as you like, it just means it's budgeted and you need approvals to spend it. He is so green at anything outside of 1984 that he obviously didn't read his agreement very well.

You can't completely change the demographic of a community of 10 Million people.
And here you go again, the audience was not gone? where did they go? only 10% of Howard's audience signed up for Sirius, so did the other 90% stop listening to radio? no, they all switched to something else listenable.
Now you guys are grasping at straws to further create excuses for another one of DLR's famous failures, which started way back with Skycrapper.

OK, we are back on track, since we are talking law, I can 100% guarantee that his contract has a clause about behaviour and CBS can most likely cut him without pay for violating such things. SO I will bet that he would like to be telling them off, but his advisers are forcing him to say that everyone is starting to get along. If not he would already be laying on the ground kicking his feet like a child, that's DLR.
I wish he would just stop being selfish and let the public tell him what kind of show they want, but he is too selfish to listen to anyone, which is sad.

There is a market for Dave's show and it is too early to tell how it will develop. Maybe the fact that you don't find the show entertaining is some indication that the market is limited but if they shit-can Dave now without allowing him adequate time to cultivate his style they are at the very least turning away potential income.

They may make that argument. I am more concerned with what he said on Howard Radio implying the CBS lawsuit against Stern to be frivolous than anything else. That can come back and bite him in the ass - not a smart thing to say! It really comes down to what the contract says. There are all these arguments and a million nuances that either side may use and that we can't even guess without seeing that document.
No matter what the contract says, I don't think Roth is being selfish wanting to have a reasonable time to develop his own show before adopting the safe and well tested corporate approach. You think the show sucks now - think how bad it would suck if Dave was doing a fake-ass Howard Stern / O&A knockoff show every morning

Absolutely.
They could have done some damage control though by having some good guests the first couple of weeks. Big mistake but maybe not Roths.
He obviously spent a ton of time on his background music and 20 different girls doing the international links but assumed that the guests were in place.
Personally I would have checked that.

Howard Stern has been supporting Dave and even the other guys on his show. Howard says they need time to develop and evolve their shows.
Most good radio shows weren't great or even good from day one. They took time to evolve.
Drew and Mike handed Howard his ass in the Detroit market in every ratings book. Drew and Mike were on the verge of getting cancelled when they took off. It was more than a year after they started the show. They have been going strong for more than 10 years since.
Fuck CBS. They need to let Dave fail or succeed by doing it his own way. But they can't expect miracles in such a short period of time. Give him the year or two he needs. If he doesn't succeed and figure it out in that timeframe, then yes, they can say they were right and sack him. Radio shows build up steam over the long haul. Then the money is made back tenfold. It doesn't happen from day one. That is unrealistic of anyone to think or expect that to be the case. I hope he does get fired right away, and ends up on Sirius. Fuck Free FM. I'd rather pay for something I want, than to be force fed something I don't.
Catfish, quit talking about how you quit, and do it. I don't expect to see another post from you after your response to this one. Goodbye.

let's be honest.
no matter who they hired, there is no way the replacement was going to pull Stern numbers. not after six months, not ever. those days are over.
I agree, but this poor start won't lead to curiosity, it will led to worse ratings.

A-fuckin'-men! This is the only radio show - ever - thats gotten me outta bed in the AM, everyday. With some changes, I think it'll make it. The loops are very distracting, especially some songs. Getting him to lose the constant retard-sounding laughter attacks he feels are necessary after EVERY 'joke', etc, will never happen - that's HIM, always has been. That trait's a 'stickey'.
He's gonna have to bend somewhat. If any of the professionals on this board had an employee or client who goofily giggled like a nervous little girl after every fucking statement, something would change...
Hope he makes it! Back to the arguments! (Opie&Aides-Boy... yeah, right!).
