Although my favorite Diver Down song is "The Full Bug", I have to say that "Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William now)" shows a band that;
A) Had serious chops to bring it down and swing
B) Made it enjoyable to listen to yet another yet different cover
C) Showed just how damn tight they were as a foursome
D) Had the BIGGEST FUCKING BALLS to even record soemthing like that !!!Comment

If you take out all the friggin covers on Diver Down, it's actually a damn good album. They should have waited and recorded a few more originals to go on that album, then released the sucker. Then it may have been one of, if not the best, VH album.Comment

I have to agree with you.
As far as I'm concerned, although they definitely "Van Halenized" "Big Bad Bill ..." and "Happy Trails" (as well as the other more mainstream ones on there) after Van Halen II's "You're no good" it should have been nothing but pure, unadulterated Van Fucking Halen ... period.
And I'm sure, when all is said and done, when we get tot hear some of the unreleased stuff they have filed away that didn't make it to album, we're going to be left scratching our heads wonderin' why the fuck they didn't replace "Dancin' in the streets" with this or "Where have all the good times gone" with that.
I don't know the whole story on Led Zeppelin's "Coda", but the stuff on it was incredible and I would have loved to have heard "We're gonna groove" in place of "All of my love" on "In through the out door".
