In 1981, Thorogood was opening for the Rolling Stones on their world tour. He was also secretly practicing with the band because Woody was too coked up and making a lot of mistakes onstage. Anyone who has listened to the early Thorogood albums on Rounder Records knows how heavy an influence the Early Stones were on his sound, along with Chuck Berry and the blues masters who influenced the Stones themselves.
It would have been one Hell of a combination, and I'd kill for a bootleg of those rehearsals. Considering every concert of the 1981 Stones tour was professionally recorded and filmed, I'll bet those tapes DO exist.
Come to think of it, Van HALEN opened some shows on that tour as well. If the cameras weren't rolling on their set, then the guys doing the filming were idiots!!Eat Us And Smile
