    The Blues

I consider myself a big blues fan, in fact it would be kind of hard not to be considering I grew up not far from Memphis. I love everything from Robert Johnson (YES I HAVE BEEN TO THE ACTUAL CROSSROADS) to Buddy Guy. BB King to Stevie Ray Vaughn. To me it is so interesting to see the evolution and sometimes direct rip off of blues songs in rock music. For instance, Cream's "Strange Brew," in which Clapton does the exact same solo as Albert King does in "Oh Pretty Woman." Or how Jimmy Page borrows a lick from Elmore James, or EVH borrows something from Clapton, which was borrowed from one of the original blues greats.

Anyone else out there love the blues?

It does form a basis for the playing style of many a guitarists, including yours truly. (Johnny Winter & SRV are my personal favs, though...)
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Yeah, for sure. Its where rock started. Most of my favorite bands just took the blues and pumped them up on steroids - AC/DC, Zepplin, Halen. I don't mean taking the I - IV - V blues progression, but they have their feet firmly planted in blues territory.

Some of my favorites are Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Albert King, SRV and the Canadian David Wilcox.

No, I didn't get to do a deal...it was in the middle of the day when I went. Plus, the Crossroads is an intersection of 2 main highways now. I don't think the Devil is going to visit when there are fast food joints all around. LOL

I LOVE the blues. My favorite music style, and the foundation to every true musical style. Rock, Metal with all its variations, whatever. My favorite Blues artist has to be John Lee Hooker. There are better guitar players and singers out there, but he must've been the best guitar player/singer ever.

    Cheers! :bottle:

Love the old delta blues. JLH is my fav by far, got a ton of his stuff, he was electric live.

Y'all got the new reissue of Buddy Guy's "Damn right I've got the Blues"? I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, it's awesome.

ALL the major British rock bands were blues bands before they got famous or (like Led Zep) during their career peak.

    Deep Purple
    Black Sabbath
    Led Zeppelin
    The Who
    The Rolling Stones
    The Yardbirds

    I have met the following:

    BB King
    Albert King
    Buddy Guy

Those meetings were some highlights of my musical existence as a blues fan!

B.B. just plays the same licks over and over.

Love the blues as much as anyone, but B.B.'s shit is boring. Buddy Guy, SRV...bending them fucking strings and attacking that axe...THAT's the kind of blues I dig.

Bar bands are the only thing I listen to past 1am.

Most modern music has blues roots, so if you don't like it, you're not a music fan.

As much as I like BB King, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters etc, I much prefer the sort of toe-tapping old R&B style. Stuff that anyone can listen to and anyone can enjoy.

Check out the link in my sig for a really great bar band legend, and listen to his version of "Happy" by the Stones. He's a great blues singer, certainly the best white man to sing the blues (with the possible exception of Paul Rodgers), and he's an excellent harmonica player.
