Yes. Had to dig this up.

Along with "Gimme Shelter" and "You can't always get what you want" etc. this really makes me wonder if this is the best Stones album. Well, top 3 in any case, I'd say.

Too bad they didn't play it live during the 1969 tour, or even in '72 or '73...

It's fine that they did it in 1994-95, Rocks off and All down the line in '98, or Can't you hear me knockin' in 2002-03, but well, it sure doesn't sound as it used to and they tend to play slower than how they did back in their best days...

Too bad they've kept on playing the same old Satisfactions and Brown Sugars and so on for so many years!
Why would they never do Dance little sister, If you can't rock me (I mean not the puree they played during the 1976-77 tour - their 2002 version is much, much better BTW) Crazy Mama or Where the boys go?

I'd have to agree. And Tattoo You was a patchwork of previously unreleased tracks going as far back as 1972; they pretty much raided the vaults to make that album.

When A Bigger Bang came out, all the critics were rushing to trod out tired phrases like "the best Stones album since Some Girls"... it sounded like everything else they've done since 1981 to these ears; uninspired, a couple of decent tracks, nothing that the band hadn't done before (and better).

I agree with one exception. You can't forget Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. That album definitely fits into your list. That opening duo of Jumpin' Jack Flash and Carol fuckin' swangs.

Monkey Man is one of those songs I forget about and then when I listen I can't believe how brilliant it is.

I do enjoy Get Yer Ya Yas Out...as well as the Gimme Shelter movie...I SHOULD have included that in my list, agreed. Strett Fighting Man on that was da bomb.

Some good stuff done with Jones, but everything was kicked up a few notches all around (production, song quality, performances) when Taylor joined the group. Least to my ears.

I will say the group was perhaps a bit more sonically adventurous when Jones was in the group...especially stuff like Their Satanic Mag(j)estie's Request and Between The Buttons.
