Chris Broderick of Megadeath

Believe it or not I used to work with this guy in a music store where he taught guitar lessons down the hall.



Only found out two days ago he was in Megadeath. Small freaky world, indeed.

From what I can remember about him Chris was a nice guy. He's come in at evening time carrying his briefcase and teach up to 6 to 7 students a day with a lot of technical/modal/scale instruction rather than playing the same old Green Day/Nirvana riffs that most of the other guitar teachers did. He did know a LOT about music though not just the technical end of playing but knew of numerous bands (from jazz to bluegrass players) such as Morphine of which I've been a big fan of their music ever since

I had no idea he was in Megadeth (it's "deth", right?) until I ran into the store's owner about a week ago who told me he saw Chris at the NAMM show in L.A. where he was signing autographs and pimping Ibanez guitars - particularly 7-string Ibanez guitars.

Chris Broderick was also in Jag Panzer and Nevermore in the 90s and 00s.

He was a real find for Megadeth. The guy can really play. He is one of the few people that can nail the Friedman & Poland solos in Megadeth.


Also he is pretty diverse

What I remember most about him is that he rarely taught on electric guitar. In most cases he used a old Martin acoustic that belonged to the store's owner - or he used the student's guitar to give a quick demonstration and then have them play it. Never once did I see him play his 7-string the whole time I was there. It's just so odd finding out that guy is now playing in Megadeth.

Yup, 'Megadeth'. I've seen them twice with Chris and he's a STAGGERING guitar player - I'm actually not much a fan of the 'widdly-for-the-sake-of-it' stuff, but he strikes a balance with melody and feeling very well. Easily the best lead player they've had since Marty Friedman left 10 years ago.

To me, Chris is the best guitar player Megadeth's ever had for just those reasons stated by Bin. Though I'm a big fan of Nevermore, I was thrilled to hear he'd be leaving to join them.

Chris was/is a fit and really attractive guy from what I remember about him. And I'm finding out he is one amazing guitar player, too - he really did not play as much in the shop as did the other instructors. For the most part he was a quiet kind of guy didn't say much when he came in but at those times when he did I was amazed about his vast knowledge of music, music composers and gave me insight to music theory that made sense on how to listen to music rather than take it at face value.

Never been much of a fan of Megadeth myself but when they do come to town I just might see them. Wonder if I ran into him today would he remember me
