    Sammy Admits Dave Is Better

"Road: What was your opinion of their choice of Gary Cherone (former Extreme singer) for the band's singer #3?

Hagar: "Gary Cherone, although I don't know him-everybody says that he's the nicest guy in the world and I don't deny his talent, but he's got his hands full. He's got to fill not only my shoes, but Roth's shoes. It was a tough enough job for me and I was coming off a double platinum album. He's coming from zero."

Get that? He's got his hands full because he not only had to fill Sammy's shoes (which Sammy thinks are big anyway), but ROTH. Save the biggest and best for last, eh, Spammy?

    Not only "my shoes", BUT...ROTH!

Because he's better'n me, right, Scrammy? Right?

Just goes to show how deluded Sammy is that he assumes he even got close to filling Roth's shoes.

Sad part for Sammy is that the Van Halen 3 lineup sounded better live than Sam Halen did. As odd as Gary grapping his ass onstage looked, at least he gave some of those long neglected classic tunes a shot.

Funny how Sammy says he's so much better than Roth, yet never bothered to do anything other than the same 4 classic tunes live and fumbled them disasterously. You would think if he's such a better singer than Dave he wouldn't have had a problem with it.

For all his bravado, Sammy is clearly intimidated by the legacy of classic Van Halen. As well he should be.

Roth left a big gap for Hagar to fill. Hagar knew he couldn't do it. Being the dumbass he is he took that phrase literally and ate loadsa food to try and fill the gap. Didn't work obviously.

It's lines like this that make me feel a little for Mr. Hagar. What an awesome responsibility to follow DLR in Van Halen. 20 summes later the monkey on his back is as heavy as it ever was.

As disrespectful as Sam has been to DLR/VH in the press and in concerts, every once in a while (like this) he lets his guard down and reveals that the remastered discs are in his home juke box with a WACF poster over the tequila bar.
                      "Float like a butterfly. Sting like a B-52." - DLR=VH=
"Rejoice in the wife of your youth. May her breasts satisfy you always." Proverbs 5:18-19.

sammy also says in another interview dave was the leader of VH before he was in it.

thats a big statement from a guy who does not like dave and was not even there to experience that dave was infact the leader of VH.

shows you what he thinks of ed!

Cherone preferred the Classic VH than the Spam era, and I can't blame Cherone for joining VH.

How many of us would turn down an offer from the VH Bros. if we had the chance and the talent? Gary Cherone might as well have been a Rotharmy.com subscriber; when he was in Extreme in the 80s, he mentioned several times that he grew up listening to Van Halen classics in the 70's/early 80s. He was basically a Roth fan that lived his dream. (Extreme opened for DLR on his ALAE tour).

Hagar on the other hand, did everything in his power to diss DLR, including wearing a 'Dave Who?' Tshirt on the 5150 tour. (Does anyone have that pic?)

It appears that even when the VH Bros. hired a 3rd singer, even HE was a bonified Roth fan. So why am I not surprized?

David Lee Roth is one of the last great frontmen in rock with few equals because what came after him has been lame, Dave is in a class all by himself with his showmanship & bad ass attitude during his VH days, Sammy Hagar is a great frontman in VH even though he's average compared to Dave, I think Sammy said it correctly because him & Dave defined their eras of this legendary rock band while Gary Cherone didn't!!!

nehhhh.....Cherone has/can now/will always kick Hagarita's ass when it comes to frontman showmanship. Know why? Cherone's influences: Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury and DLR himself.

Make no mistake, just because Hagarita does lead vocals for Van Halen currently, doesn't mean he's a frontman. Sammy Hagar, in no uncertain terms, isn't a frontman and never was. He simply doesn't have any showmanship, and that's part of the reason why he dislikes Roth so much.
