Since then Cubans have had peace (when not under US attack), seen the end of virtual slavery, illiteracy and enjoy excellent health care.

I ´ll dare oppose your point of view. He´s a teddybear compared to Pinochet. Plus, Castro cares about his people, even if his methods might be dubious. Pinochet just cared about himself and his buddies!

The USA provided the environment for it, but certainly not for altruistic reasons!

Most dictators can make the argument that they "care about their people!" Even Pol Pot and Hitler. He's still a meglamanical cunt that should just die so a truly democratic movement emerges that hopefully won't be hijacked by the rightist, Batista apologist Cuban assholes in Miami.

If he was, he´d have invaded some place or other. So far people have only tried to invade Cuba.

Well, I'm not up to date on Cambodian history, but at least Adolf came up with the Autobahn and the VW. Doesn't excuse 12 million corpses, but he's already done more FOR his people than Junior has.

Thanks for the spelling correction, but I meant 'megalomaniacal cunt' actually. And he had significant numbers of troops in Angola, Grenada, much of Central America to export Revolution, and in the case of Angola, they were there to secure future oil rights. You can paint him as a revolutionary radical-chic all you want. But he's no better than many killers, despite his laudable social remaking of Cuba.

We can always extoll the virtues of the next Robespierre! But they are still tyrants even if they are bettering things in some ways.

Just a little reminder about ol' Fidel though....

He actually knocked on our doors first, begging the Eisenhower administration for help. The BCE-corporatist CIA advised Ike against it, because the corporations were doing well under the right wing repressive Batista regime.

Castro could have been a US ally, but the BCE slammed the door in his face. Kruschev seized the opportunity to get his foot in the door of the Western Hemisphere - which of course boosted the Cold War - and by extention the military industrial complex, so it was a win-win for the corporatists either way.

Cuba also has one of the best education systems.

I plan on visiting that fine country next year.

Be careful though Kentucky, they're very jealous that we can enjoy those fine white beaches, but they can't.
