"There is a plan,” Anthony told Trunk. “We're starting a bunch of the reissue stuff with the Sammy [Hagar] years, with all his albums, and the first one that will come out will be the Right Here, Right Now live album that we did in 1992."
So fuck that. -
The bassist says he also has a few videos taped by “the house” at venues like the Maryland Capital Center, noting, “It is kind of sad that there hasn't been more stuff like that that has been available to the public to see from the band, especially the Roth days.”
Perhaps the most enticing tidbit from the interview is the prospect of an extensive catalog of early live recordings stored at Van Halen’s 5150 facility that have yet to see the light of day.
“I know for a fact [on] all early tours, we used to record every single show,” says Anthony. “That was just for the band so that we could critique ourselves after every show and this went on for a few years... the first few tours we would record almost every show. I'm sure [they’re] somewhere around Eddie's house, or Wolfgang's got them now – they've got a lot of these tapes."Comment

Fuck that, indeed.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

I suppose it is encouraging in the limited sense of confirming that stuff exists, so that perhaps maybe possibly someday we might be able to see and hear it...although at the rate it's going I'll have lapsed into senile dementia by the time any of it gets released.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

who would appreciate it (probably many who post here) will be long gone. If you think nepo-babies
or influencers who wear a classic Van Halen t-shirt to Burning Man or Coachella beacuse it makes
them feel retro will be interested in that stuff, someone is delusional.
I would love to be proven wrong but am holding out absolutely no hope of me ever seeing anything
other than the 3 MTV Oakland songs. On the other hand, that is peak VH and I'm pretty content
with that.Originally posted by sadaistI don't mind that one Nickelback song. I just hate the fact that they put it on every album 10 times.Comment

While I have no interest in the Hagar rereleases... I am hopeful that Alex may gain a sense of pride from any positive effect of those rereleases and decide maybe it's better to put stuff out so that he and his genius brother's legacy aren't forgotten. It's not a lot of work on Alex's part and there's a ton of people who would jump at the opportunity to bring these recordings out of the storage and garage sheds..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

Even Dave has tapes of stuff apparently.
Why don't they all get off their rich asses, get together and go through this stuff.
A 1978-1984 Live box set of the best shows from those years would be a killer release. Complete with packaging with photos, posters, reproduced tour books and so on.
Fuck sakes, I'd pay good money to get that. Did you hear me Al?? Lol.=V V=

A lot of it is copyright and who can sue whom, the question will be whose intellectual property it is and who the controlling interests of the "Van Halen" corporation is/are. Unfortunately rock and roll has CEOs. CFO's, Officers of the Corp., etc....Comment

I want a nice box set that I can put on my shelf with my other box sets that I can listen to at will when I take a boatload of drugs. The 2015 reissues were okay and just that but I spend a lot of money on drugs and want my drugs to work for me and there is nothing more buzzkill than hearing S P A M M Y squelching out Right Now for a fucking corporation like Pepsi. No one is going to purchase that S P A M M Y-era shit other than his feces throwing monkey fan base of brain dead imbeciles. Yes, today's Roth is sad and it painful seeing him lose his god damn mind to what I can guess are the early stages of dementia but from what, 78-84-ish, Roth was brilliant.
Again, it is too much to ask?Comment

I've just realized if this box set appeared I don't have ready access to a DVD player, I think I have one in the attic and the only CD player I have set up at the moment is in my car.
They better get a move on if they want to monetize this.Comment

Just acknowledging that there's a significant amount of unreleased recordings is a welcome change... previously, no one directly associated with the band would admit to the existence of any of that stuff even though there have been records and storage invoices of old recordings circulated on the net for years on the fan sites.

I’m sure stuff will come out but it’s not going to happen next week. Also the legacy is already there. All the albums and a zillion concert memories. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment
