There were other stories that Hendrix's publishing was held by a consortium of business entities located in the Bahamas, but when Hendrix's father's lawyers tried to get an accounting of the total value of the publishing it was then discovered that the various accounts were empty, having been depleted to settle various pending lawsuits against Hendrix and record advances that had been withdrawn while Hendrix was alive (to pay for the construction of Electric Ladyland studios, etc.).

Not much different from Elvis Presley in the respect that both spent their money as quick as they could make it: Elvis was worth less than a million in liquidity when he died, which is the only reason he agreed to have two 1977 concerts filmed for broadcast (and were after he died) when he was at his most bloated...in that after all those years Elvis needed the money. Same reason why Hendrix went back on the road in the spring of 1970 after having only played a few paying gigs after Woodstock, in that Hendrix hadn't had a new album out in a year and a half at that point and hadn't been playing paid gigs with any regularity since June of 1969: Jimi needed money.
Hendrix’s financial and legal matters were a mess. If there is no estate or will have fun! Elvis’s father Vernon was better at bookkeeping but the colonel was taking a huge cut and losing most of us at the casino. Then there was Elvis’ spending. Poor management all around. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Which I think Jagger addressed in an interview in the late 1980s, when he said something along the lines of there being a public perception of Keith as the 'passionate one' and Mick being the 'calculating one' and pointed out that he (Jagger) found it necessary to take an active interest in the business affairs of the band (actually looking at the accounting statements, seeing where the money was going, seeking independent financial/legal advice) because otherwise they'd get ripped off if they just kept their heads in the sand and left it all at relying on the verbal assurances of record company representatives or managers (or lawyers and accountants hired by the record companies or managers) that everything was as it should be.

The perception I get from Elvis is that he didn't particularly care about how his earnings were funneled and was content to leave it up to Parker to handle the money. A strategy which got Elvis into debt and left him with no choice but to keep touring once the reality of how the money had been coming in (and the advances Elvis had taken on future earnings to maintain his lifestyle) was made clear to him in the mid-1970s.

Elvis was a fuckup. I loved how he would be glossy eyed with diluted pupils telling America to stay off drugs. Then he sings gospel songs pretending to be religious while getting his Dick sucked in every town. Not much different than a 80’s evangelical preacher.

Yep, well, Parker probably by other management standards of the day WAS ripping Elvis off with the 50% up-front fee.

It was always within Elvis's purview NOT to remain with Parker. Elvis put his father in charge via making him his business manager. Maybe that was a mistake, because Vernon was hardly savvy when it came to money. And, yep, Col. Tom Parker was neither a colonial nor was his real name Tom Parker. He snuck into the country illegally and was a grifty carnival hustler before going into music management. Bit of a degenerate gambling fuck, too. Short of him having physically hypnotized Presley, it was always within Elvis's discretion to terminate his association with Parker. Elvis didn't. Obscene, but also tough shit.

Was never one to blame Parker for the cheesy merchandising of Presley's image while Presley was alive, because Presley always had a choice.

Swings and roundabouts I suppose. He could sing much better than me but I've outlived him and never went after 14 year old girls when I was in my mid 20s...
