Was Eddies meltdown a publicity stunt?

This is just my thoughts. And maybe I am too much of a theorist, but. This tour, for all purposes was a disaster! They played nightly to an average of about 7000. The new songs were forgotten immediately. The BOBW did not sell well at all. They received little or no press coverage and the little they did get was never without mention of David Lee Roth! "Fans seemed to come alive only when such classic DLR era songs were played". We have all heard that they have been having problems since the onset of the tour. I heard that interview back in July where Sammy said there was no future for him in VH. The Wabo's were his soulmates, etc. etc. They only finished the tour because of the guaranteed money and the contractual obligation or it would have ended about 5 shows in.

Eddied "meltdown" in my opinion will be spun like this:
"Sammy was never committed to the band"
    "I tried everything"
"He always talked about leaving the band to do his own thing during the tour"
"This whole thing was a mistake"

He will lay the blame all off on Sammy. This outburst had to happen, on stage, if the future has Dave in it. I think Ed is in control, knows what he wants, but needs to lay it off on Sam. It gives him an excuse. It also allows him the freedom to say all those things. As for Alex, he looked as stunned as the rest of the band, which tells me that the "CEO" of VH, just plays the drums. He makes as many decisions in VH as I do!

The irony that this incident took place during the encore, on the final night of the tour, on stage, tells me that it was a planned scene. Ed knew exactly what he was doing and there was A reason for it...I think that reason is ultimatley the return of David Lee Roth! I may be totally wrong....or......

    what do you think?

I've been thinking that Ed secretly wants Dave back since the beginning. I think he needs to "stand up" to Alex. It's well documented that although Ed is the musical talent in the band, he's horribly intimidated by Alex.

I think the encore fiasco was merely a "projection" of his frustration and his realization of making a major decision: "Tell Al that Dave is coming back...or he'll no longer be carrying Al along for the ride."

    End of story.
I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...

Right. The 'meltdown" was Ed growing a set of nuts! Alex will NEVER pass
up the amount of money to be made from a tour with Dave, nor will "the bass player"...he may play a show or 2 with Shambo, but when it comes time, he'll be there too!

        wishful thinking

Thousands of classic VH fans have been wishing for a successful reunion with Dave and Ed for 19 years. The truth is that Ed is mess mentally, emotionally, spiritually and musically. He's been dumped by his wife, Warner Brothers, probably Gary Cherone, and now even Sam Hagar is happily parting ways with VH.

Ed is falling apart. His mind is gone, his liver is fried, his lungs are charred, his brain is pickled... it's sad, but it's true and it's over.

A reunion w/ Dave would be a disaster for Dave and Dave knows that.

I agree with Carmine. I've read where Eddie has become more and more frustrated about having to "carry" Alex through all of his divorces, mortgages and alimony payments. But, because he's loyal to his brother, he continues to do so.

Hopefully during this tour, the realization that no one is getting any younger and the desire to bring his band back to the top, has helped aid in the growing of said nuts.

I agree with all that, its true! But, for 11 years(74-85) all that stuff was happening, the drinking, smoking, broads, etc. The one thing that has been missing for 19 years is the only thing that can hold it all together...and if presented with the opportunity,Dave will do it. He cherishes VH more than anyone!

And as I said before, the amount of money will be astonishing!!
Eddie flipping out is the best "news" I've heard in years!

No, this was no publicity stunt whatsoever. As the person "9 on a 10 scale" said in the other thread (he posts at the links and is an insider being Hagars nephew) that Ed woke up drunk and continued drinking all the way up to show time. An irrational Mr. Hyde type of drinker is Ed. He was genuinely frustrated by this tour and the lack of success of things in general. What better place for a two year old to take it out on than fellow band members and fans than the last show?

Does this not signal the "RETURN"? Maybe thats why the man drank himself into
                      oblivion the entire tour?

How about the kid? Maybe Wolfie can save him?

But they were young! Drinking and doping in excess will eventually take their toll especailly when you're older.

I do agree that a reunion with Diamond Dave is possible if money is a factor, and it always is, so a renunion could happen. I'm just saying that Ed looks pretty fucked up to do anything right now.

I think you are on to something Ragoo! Eddie probably is a conniving, calculating bastard that will exploit the situation to suit his means. But if it was a "publicity stunt" it really didn't work well since no one but the hardcore bloggers cared about his meltdown, real or contrived.

Right Nick, but the "meltdown" and all the reasons are only in the infancy
stages. Give it time friends...LOL! remember, "It's about Time!

Carmine, You have quite the little scenario laid out there and I find it interesting. However, I also think that it if it was true that this would be very fucked up of him. Why can't he just be honest? Why does he have to setup a scenario? Why does he have to play these bullshit games with people, to Dave, Mike, and yes even Sammy, and most importantly, the fans. Just tell us what's up and let's do it. He is a man living in denial. He knows he has shit all over his legacy and destroyed the little value left of that band.
His only hope, is Dave. Period.
There is nothing else he can do, nothing he can say, nothing he can drink to make it go away. He needs to lay it all out there, tell us the truth about what the fuck is going on, apologize to Dave and more importantly apologize to the fans.
Frankly I think he will be dead before this happens.
So my thinking is what many others have conveyed here Bueno Bob, Scottydabody and others, Dave stay away from this trainwreck!!
