This is just my thoughts. And maybe I am too much of a theorist, but. This tour, for all purposes was a disaster! They played nightly to an average of about 7000. The new songs were forgotten immediately. The BOBW did not sell well at all. They received little or no press coverage and the little they did get was never without mention of David Lee Roth! "Fans seemed to come alive only when such classic DLR era songs were played". We have all heard that they have been having problems since the onset of the tour. I heard that interview back in July where Sammy said there was no future for him in VH. The Wabo's were his soulmates, etc. etc. They only finished the tour because of the guaranteed money and the contractual obligation or it would have ended about 5 shows in.
Eddied "meltdown" in my opinion will be spun like this:
"Sammy was never committed to the band"
"I tried everything"
"He always talked about leaving the band to do his own thing during the tour"
"This whole thing was a mistake"
He will lay the blame all off on Sammy. This outburst had to happen, on stage, if the future has Dave in it. I think Ed is in control, knows what he wants, but needs to lay it off on Sam. It gives him an excuse. It also allows him the freedom to say all those things. As for Alex, he looked as stunned as the rest of the band, which tells me that the "CEO" of VH, just plays the drums. He makes as many decisions in VH as I do!
The irony that this incident took place during the encore, on the final night of the tour, on stage, tells me that it was a planned scene. Ed knew exactly what he was doing and there was A reason for it...I think that reason is ultimatley the return of David Lee Roth! I may be totally wrong....or......
