There's still word that tomorrow may be Dave's swan song. Howard talked about it a bit. Here's a report of it from Mark's Friggin':
David Lee Roth Discussions. 03/30/06. 8:30am
After the break Howard had a few things to read from the newspaper today. He said that there's some stuff going on back at his old station in the news. He also asked the guys to get more compression on his microphone because that might be part of his problem.
Howard said that there's an article about David Lee Roth possibly losing his job at CBS. He said that Roth did some test shows for CBS and they knew exactly what he was going to be doing when he started over there. Now there's an article in the NY Post about how he might be let go. Howard said that Dave has been very vocal about how he doesn't want to change his show for CBS as they're asking him to. He said that he's been asked to make it more like Howard Stern's show and he doesn't want to go there. Robin and Howard were talking about how Dave may be caving in a little bit because he has been having on some guests like strippers and a Hank the Dwarf-like personality.
Howard read the NY Post article where John Mainelli points out that Roth was missing from his show yesterday. Management (like Tom Chiusano) isn't having a good time working with Dave and they're kind of upset about that. Howard said that they really need to give Dave a chance to make his show happen but now he's reading that Friday may be his final show. The story coming from CBS is that Dave was at a music festival and he didn't get enough sleep so he missed the show yesterday. Howard said that he's apparently been absent from his show for 2 days.
Howard said that his point is that the same CBS that is suing him will probably end up suing David Lee Roth. That's the rumor he's hearing anyway. They've been messing with his show from the start and not giving him a chance to make it his own. Howard said that CBS knew what they had from the beginning and if they do fire him, they have to pay the guy the 8 million they owe him. He has a feeling that they're going to screw Dave over just like they screw over other talent in their company.
Howard said that CBS knew what they had with Dave and even took out ads saying that they weren't going to have any more fart jokes with him. Howard said that CBS had better not sue this guy and better pay the guy. If they don't, they're making a big mistake. He's wondering when they're going to fired Joel Hollander for costing the company money. He said that the guy should stand up and admit that he has no idea what he's doing. He's a salesman who they moved up to fill in for Mel Karmazin when he left. Howard said Joel thinks that he's an expert but he's not.
Howard spent a few minutes going off on Joel Hollander and Leslie Moonves. He wonders when they're going to stand up and admit that they've filed a frivolous lawsuit and that they don't know what they're doing.
Howard said that Mel Karmazin was talking about how they have already asked Howard to stay on for another five years and they would give him the same deal he has now if he would do that. Howard said that's confidence right there. He said that Mel was also saying that he CBS lawsuit is without merit and they're surprised that they would waste their time with Howard.Same ole song and dance...Comment

Is It Over?
DCRTV.com is reporting that CBS Radio has removed the low-rated David Lee Roth (ex-VAN HALEN) from his post-Howard Stern morning slot at the company's stations in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, and Pittsburgh.
According to the Billboard Radio Monitor, listeners to Roth's morning show in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Dallas woke up Wednesday morning (March 29) to WFNY (Free FM) New York midday personalities JV & Elvis filling in, while listeners in Boston and West Palm Beach woke up to music.
At Roth's New York flagship, PD Mark Chernoff had no comment about why the morning man was missing in action on what would have been his third day broadcasting live from Miami's trendy South Beach. Chernoff wouldn't comment on whether the morning man will return on Thursday.
WFNY nighttime personality Booker was filling in for JV and Elvis in middays on Wednesday, with part-time personality Julie Slater set to fill in for Booker, playing music — as the station does on weekends.
New York Post's "The Starr Report" reported yesterday that Roth's February Arbitron numbers were only half of what he averaged in January. According to Post radio reporter John Mainelli, Stern had 277,000 listeners at any given moment last December — while Roth had only 32,000 listeners last month.

Tunes talk for Roth on rocker’s day off
By Jessica Heslam
Bostonians who actually listen to David Lee Roth’s radio show thought the aging rocker had finally been fired yesterday when he failed to get behind the mike.
It turns out that Roth didn’t get the ax but took an unscheduled day off.
Listeners were instead treated to a morning of music.
The former Van Halen frontman was on his way back to New York from Miami, where he had been broadcasting his show, which is heard locally on WBCN-FM.
The Boston station’s morning ratings have plummeted since Roth took over for Howard Stern earlier this year.
“Contrary to erroneous reports, David Lee Roth has not been let go. He is on his way back from Miami and is scheduled to return to the air on Friday,” a CBS spokeswoman said in an e-mail to the Herald.
Roth reportedly attended the Winter Music Conference, and “the rumblings emanating from South Beach claimed Roth didn’t get any sleep Monday night and needed some time off,” according to R&R pop music editor Kevin Carter.
Roth’s radio show has been panned by critics. Industry insiders say he’s difficult to work with, has little radio experience and won’t listen to constructive criticism.

And then...
Static gets louder as Roth snubs Hub
By Jessica Heslam
Thursday, March 16, 2006 - Updated: 11:02 AM EST
David Lee Roth’s radio days are numbered. Critics pan him. His ratings are horrendous. He’s difficult to work with and on air he’s dared his CBS bosses to fire him.
And the list goes on.
Roth - who replaced shock jock Howard Stern on the East Coast in January - snubbed the Hub.
The former Van Halen rocker was scheduled to do his morning show live at Boston’s WBCN today and tomorrow but cancelled last minute, citing “scheduling conflicts.”
“It’s a matter of waiting for the blow up. He’s really interesting, but so far that hasn’t translated into a compelling radio show,” said Tom Taylor, editor of Inside Radio.
“I don’t think David’s having a good time,” Taylor said. “Radio is a lot harder to do than it sounds.”
Despite a big billboard and bus marketing blitz, WBCN has lost about 100,000 listeners from December to January when Roth took over. The station’s morning ratings dropped to 12th place from first.
The ratings for Stern’s West Coast replacement, comedian Adam Carolla, were even worse.
If Roth can’t come close to replacing Stern - who left CBS for Sirius Satellite Radio - who can?
Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, said there are two obvious choices: syndicated talk jock Mancow Muller or former WAAF duo Opie & Anthony, who have an XM Satellite Radio show and were rumored to be in talks with CBS.
“Somebody is going to replace David Lee Roth,” Harrison said. “Radio people do much better on radio than non-radio people.”
Don Kelley, programming vice president for Greater Media’s five Boston stations, said WBCN could always return to playing music.
“People have given it a try and they’re not liking it,” Kelley said of Roth. “All you hear are stories about how he doesn’t want any input. That’s not the way to win.”
A CBS spokeswoman said there’s no truth to the rumor that Opie & Anthony are replacing Roth, who has turned down recent interview requests by the Herald because of “scheduling conflicts.”
