I thought it was funny because, like everyone else in Washington, Gore will say anything to stay relevant, gain power, or fill his pockets. He has been on everyside of the Iraq issue depending on when, where, and/or to whom he was speaking( the "he played on our fears" speech comes to mind as the opposite of the one above).
