I'm not sure the specifics...
but...the NFL allows NFL teams to have an off jersey or 2...
for example...a lot of teams do the throw back deal...I think you are allowed to use them 2 or 3 times...

The Chargers throwbacks are one of the best uniforms EVER!!! They should wear them permanently. IMO. Then again, I dug the 70's Air Coryell era too with Fouts, Windslow and Jefferson as well.
Remember the '94 season when all teams wore old time throwbacks celebrating the NFL's 75'th year? That was cool shit and I wish they'd do that shit more often.

The NFL likes to go to the throwbacks around Thanksgiving time.
Not all teams do it. All of the teams that played Thanksgiving day did, and usually do.
Even NFL.com put up old school team logos for the week.

Those I didn't mind so much, but they wore those a few years ago. The throw backs they wore last year were the '65 Royal Blue Laker road jerseys with the "Los Angeles" in script on them. Those were cool too.
The Lakers just look dumb wearing the white home unis. And yeah actually I remember that line from A Few Good Men, that's why I used it.
I plead the 5th in being a Laker fan now. Kidding.
