PHILADELPHIA - With wide receiver Terrell Owens sidelined by an ankle injury, the Philadelphia Eagles had to look elsewhere for offensive firepower in Sunday's playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. They found it in the person of quarterback Donovan McMabb's mother Wilma, who ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' 27-14 win.
"Mom knows all the plays," Donovan McNabb said after the game, "because she's always hanging around the team during practice, serving us Chunky Soup. She was able to step right in, and the Vikings didn't have an answer for her."
"Mrs. McNabb just killed us out there," said Vikings head coach Mike Tice. "We watched film on [Eagles running back Brian Westbrook] all week because we figured that with Owens injured they'd go to him, but, Wilma came out of nowhere. I tell you, she can really move for a big lady."
"I'm happy to help Donovan out whenever he needs me," Wilma McNabb said. "It's like when he had a history paper due his freshman year at Syracuse and he forgot his books at home; I drove all night to get them to his dorm room and he ended up getting a B+. This isn't really any different."
The Eagles will next host the Atlanta Falcons in Sunday's NFC Championship Game. The Eagles have lost the last three NFC title games, the last two coming in front of the home crowd in Philadelphia. "I know Mrs, McNabb doesn't want to see her son lose four straight NFC title games," said Eagles coach Andy Reid, "so she'll do anything to make sure the Eagles get to the Super Bowl. We may even put her in there at linebacker, have her shadow [Falcons quarterback] Michael Vick. Lord knows no one else has been able to stop him; we may as well try Donovan's mom."
