The only way a penalty in that particular situation, a minute to go for the Stanley Cup, should have been called if he was near dead from the hit.....Or on a breakaway or something, the hit didnt look to me like it would have prevented a goal....But it doesnt matter now, the Lightning deserved to win the game.....

How long will this damn lockout last?!?!? I have a hard enough time during the summer without hockey, let alone an extened break. How long do you guys think this damn thing will take?
Both sides have to make concessions to save the season otherwise Hockey will be a major afterthought where professional sports are concerned.
They're already facing enough uphill battles in trying to promote the game more effectively, but if they lock out the season, it'll be tough to recover from that.
That & I'll die without my hockey.
"Honey, my shirt got itself torn up. My shirt tore itself on that stripper's hand, and I need it to be sewed up for the show."
"No problem, Dave, no problem. Say hello to Fluffy."
"Fuck you, Fluffy."
"No, no, you're going to upset Fluffy."
"I ain't saying hello to no stuffed bear."
"You know, now that I think about it, it's going to take a little longer to sew up that shirt than I was thinking."
"Hi Fluffy, how you been?"
"Now that I'm thinking of it even more, it's going to take half the time, Double D, Diamond Dave! Would you hold Fluffy?"
"N--- yeah."
Teams are prepared for an 18 month lock out. If this happens at least 3 teams will fold, Pittsburg being one of them. It's pretty much a guarantee this will happen. Someone better figure out how to resolve this salary cap dispute and fast.
RARELY DOES one dominate their profession and then have no choice but to shut it down and hope all they've accomplished doesn't go into the garbage. But that's the situation facing Martin St. Louis, who completed a rare triple last night when he won the Hart Trophy as the National Hockey League MVP. St. Louis became the first player since Wayne Gretzky in 1987 to win the Hart, Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer and the Stanley Cup in the same season.
"I'm still on a high from winning the Stanley Cup, and that's the most important trophy for me," said St. Louis, who earlier yesterday was named winner of the Lester B. Pearson Award, given to the player voted MVP by fellow NHL players. "I'm very flattered to win these awards. It hasn't really sunk in."
St. Louis was a runaway winner of the Hart, garnering 97 first-place votes to two each by Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames and Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils. Maple Leafs goalie Ed Belfour was 10th in Hart voting.
It was a relatively perfect day for St. Louis, who was fourth in voting for the Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward.
But St. Louis, who acknowledged he is 5-foot-8 and not 5-foot-9 as the media guides suggest, and the other stars gathered last night are dealing with the near certainty that they will be locked out in September by the league's team owners.
"I am worried about that, but the guys did it 10 years ago, and you feel like you owe it to the game," said St. Louis, who had 94 points during the regular season. "Hopefully we won't have to go that far."
Would St. Louis, who bore the cuts inflicted on his face by Andrew Ference during Game 7 of the Cup final on Monday night, consider playing in the reincarnation of the World Hockey Association if NHL players are locked out?
"I can't tell you I wouldn't consider it," said the 28-year-old St. Louis, whose dream year began last June 13 when his first son, Ryan, was born. "Sitting at home or making $5 million US (the most one player can be paid on any WHA team). I think it would be very tempting."
Among the other big winners last night were Brodeur, who won the Vezina Trophy for the second year in a row. His teammate, defenceman Scott Niedermayer, won the Norris Trophy for the first time in his stellar career.
Former Leaf Alyn McCauley is in the same boat, in a sense, as St. Louis. It's clear McCauley is on the cusp of some great things in the NHL -- he was nominated for the Selke Trophy last night but it went to Kris Draper of the Detroit Red Wings -- but his burgeoning career also likely will be halted in September.
"It's kind of like stopping the process you have started," said McCauley, who is recovering from recent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.

DAVE ANDREYCHUK played cuddles with the Stanley Cup during a victory parade this week in Tampa Bay. Big whoop! An estimated 20,000 people lined the parade route -- although some were suspected merely of trying to do a lunch run to the hotdog stand and thought Andreychuk was just another guy escaping with the bling-bling after ripping off the local silversmith.
The poor guy waits more than 20 years for his moment and, when it happens, it is in Florida, where the geriatrics get excited for only two things: The early bird dinner specials and the annual condo draw for a Craftmatic adjustable bed.
This is what happens when you have a commissioner who thinks it's a good idea to put NHL teams in a state where the biggest spectator sport is watching coffins disappear into holes. Most people here are so old that a good week is when they open the obituary page and find they're not on it.
